Columbus, GA – 3,198 fans at the Columbus Civic Center looked on as the Columbus River Dragons defeated the Motor City Rockers, 5-2.

The River Dragons dominated the Rockers through the first two frames of regulation, 3-0 with goals made by Justin MacDonald (11:30, 1st period), Carter Shinkaruk (14:41, 1st period), and Alex Storjahann (6:02, 2nd period).
The 3rd period proved to be a heated 20 minutes of play. The River Dragons were penalized for roughing (2:59, Kyle Moore) and slashing (13:40, Hunter Bersani). The Rockers also got penalized for hooking (13:46, Jameson Milam) and twice for roughing (2:59 by Nick Gullo and 18:11 by Declan Conway). Both teams were called for continuing an altercation
The Rockers put up two goals in the final frame at 15:16 by Danny Vanderwiel and at 17:04 by Avery Smith.
The River Dragons also scored twice in the 3rd period at 10:33 by Austin Daae and at 12:45 by Cody Wickline.
At 18:11, Kyle Moore (River Dragons) and Declan Conway (Rockers) engaged in fisticuffs, resulting in a roughing penalty against each of them. Moore, Pietrantonio, and Balkwill we’re each hit with a 10 minute major against the River Dragons for continuing an altercation, as were Vanderweil and Conway for the Rockers.
The game closed in regulation with the River Dragons claiming their hometown victory in regulation, 5-2.
Justin MacDonald marks his league-record 35th consecutive game with points scored. In that stretch he has 32 goals and 49 assists for a total 81 points.
Alex Storjahann and Austin Daae have both reached milestones this season as well, each scoring their 20th goals.
The River Dragons will continue their 3-part weekend series against the Motor City Rockers again Saturday night and Sunday.
