Columbus, GA – The Columbus River Dragons defeated the Baton Rouge Zydeco in regulation on Friday night, 6-4.

Tyler Roy stood between the pipes for the River Dragons, while Edward Coffey tended for the Zydeco.
The opening frame went scoreless.
Columbus, despite having two power play opportunities, were unable to capitalize with points on the board.
The second frame saw action from both sides.
Alex Storjohann and Kirk Underwood landed goals for Columbus at 1:27 and 3:39, breaking the seal and putting the River Dragons ahead, 2-0, before the Zydeco fired back.
At 4:05, Bailey Bilney-Morrissette scored an even-strength goal. Then at 6:48, Dmitry Kuznetsov scored a PPG to even the score, 2-2.
Matthew Horan put the River Dragons ahead again at 12:26, before Alex Storjohann and Kirk Underwood each buried their second goals for the night at 16:08 and 18:19.
The second frame closed with Columbus ahead, 5-2.
The third period kicked off with Baton Rouge firing first. Steven Ford managed to squeeze one between the pipes at 2:05, trying to keep the Zydeco alive.
The last minute of the night’s contest came with two goals.
With Baton Rouge reeling, but on the power play following an altercation that resulted in Columbus’ Skate Skalde getting slapped with a 2-minute minor for Roughing and a 10-minute Misconduct, pulled their goaltender to add an extra attacker.
Shorthanded, but taking advantage of the empty net, Josh Colten scored for Columbus at 19:01.
Only two seconds later, Curtis Hansen scored the final goal of the night.
The contest closed in favor of the River Dragons, with a final score of 6-4.
Alex Storjohann had a productive night, producing three points on four shots, landing two goals and assisting Kirk Underwood, but served two minutes for Roughing in the second period.
Kirk Underwood also produced well for Columbus, having produced two goals on four shots.
Skate Skalde, quickly becoming known for being scrappy on the ice, was slapped with a total of 16 PIM. He served a 2-minute minor for Roughing in the first period and a 2-minute minor for Interference in the second. He was also hit with a 2-minute minor for Roughing, as well as a 10-minute Misconduct for continuing an altercation in the third period.
Tyler Roy accomplished an 87.1 SV% for Columbus, compared to an 84.84 SV% produced by the Zydeco’s Edward Coffey.
The Zydeco will Faceoff against the River Dragons again on Saturday night at 7:05 pm.
