If you are Chicago, here is one you want to forget.
On Thursday, Pekka Rinne made 29 saves in a 5-2 win for the Nashville Predators over the Blackhawks.
That’s all fine, but Rinne added insult to injury when he lofted the puck from behind the goal nearly dead center into the gaping maw of the Hawks’ empty net.
Rinne is the 12th goalie in NHL history to score.
“We just scored, it was a two-goal lead, and luckily the puck was flat on the ice and I was able to take a shot,” Rinne said. “I like to play the puck, so I mean it’s something I’ve always dreamed of. So now I think the stars were lined up for me tonight.”
Dominik Kubalik and Alex DeBrincat were the Blackhawks strikers.
“[The Predators] were ready to go, and we just gave up some quality chances that even if you’re not having your best period you’ve got to find a way to limit them,” Jonathan Toews said. “We didn’t do that enough.”
Viktor Arvidsson and Colin Blackwell (first NHL goal) staked the Preds to a 2-0 lead.
“To get that first one under my belt was pretty special, pretty cool,” Blackwell said. “It was kind of all five guys on the ice, tic-tac-toe, everybody made great plays, and I was just in the right place at the right time.”
Matt Duchene scored on the power play.
“That (Rinne goal) was pretty cool,” Duchene said. “I’ve only ever seen it one other time; we had a goalie in summer hockey one year who scored, but pretty cool to see that in the NHL. That’s elite. He’s already in such an elite group of goaltenders in this league, he just added himself to another elite group. He’s been so good for us this year, and so nice to see him get rewarded with a great win, a great game, playing his position and obviously tucking one in too.”
Nick Bonino added an empty net goal ahead of Rinne’s.

Corey Crawford made 25 saves in the loss.
“The bottom line is we needed the desperation and urgency and work ethic in our game that we showed in the second and third period,” Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said. “We needed it in the first.”
