Rimouski wins second game against Quebec First round pick overall Lafreniere plays solid game

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. –Playing with veteran Alexandre-Olivier Voyer and Samuel Dove-McFall, the young rookie and first pick overall Alexis Lafreniere ended his night with three assists in 3-1 win by the Oceanic against the Remparts.

Usually preseason game or exhibition games are used by most organization to evaluate players personals, Head coaches used first couple exhibition games to give chances to drafted players to make good impressions but for some of them they were successful.

Not playing the night before in Quebec, the line of Voyer (two goals), Dove-McFall (1 assist) and Lafreniere (3 assists) led the Oceanic offense for the night.

“That line played very well, Alexis (Lafreniere) was rested and ready to play, Rimouski head coach Serge Beausoleil said to french newspaper le journal de Quebec reporter Olivier Therriault. “We will do several attempt this one worked really well tonight. They completed each other very well.”

On the other side, Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher could only admitt how good the kids will be in near future. “This kid will lead the Oceanic on top of QMJHL in couple years,” Boucher told le journal de Quebec newspaper.

McFalls opened the scoring for Rimouski with only 2:47 gone in the first period on first assist of the night by Lafreniere.

Quebec replied less than six minutes later on a power play, scoring their only goal of the night by Benjamin Gagne beating Oceanic goaltender Colten Ellis. Originally selected by Cape Breton in 2016 (59th overall) in 2016 Ellis made 18 saves on Quebec 19 shots leaving at 9:30 of the second period as William Grimard came in being perfect stopping all Quebec 12 shots.

Rimouski completed the scoring with one goal in middle frame by Alexandre-Olivier Voyer beating Quebec netminder Olivier Chalifour who has been beaten twice on Rimouski 18 shots on goal. Oliver Troops came in second period giving up only one goal in 18:25 of play, facing 11 shots.

Voyer, came back in the third periods with Oceanic third goal (insurance goal) his second of the night at 5:17 of the third period.

In the matinee, Quebec organization announced two other players who got the bad news as they had been cut. Cut were veteran 20-year old Samuel Hould and 19-year old Pierre-Luc Lurette.

On Rimouski side, the Oceanic organization traded veteran Alexandre Gise to Victoriaville Tigres in exchange of a sixth round pick in 2018.

Quebec next exhibition game will be Friday against Chicoutimi in Dolbeau Mistassini center.
