Rimouski wins over Quebec by shutout

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Losing 4- 3 in a shootout on Wednesday against the Oceanic, Quebec went to Rimouski on Saturday hoping to return the favor in the second game of a home and home series. One goal in each period along with perfect performance by Oceanic veteran goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard led Rimouski to a 3-0 win over Quebec.

For Quebec, it was their only 7th loss in regulation in 39 games and the second time by shutout.   The Saint John Sea Dogs was the first team to defeat Quebec 6-0.

In the first, Rimouski’s Peter Trainor missed the best scoring opportunity for the home team in first half of the opening period, but Quebec netminder, Louis Domingue, would certainly like another chance on Etienne Boutet shot from the left point. Domingue saw Oceanic defenseman’s shot beat him low on his left side, on Rimouski first goal at 13:53.

Quebec had only 19 players on the bench (11 forwards, 6 defensemen, 2 goaltenders), and then were forced to skate without veteran defenseman and captain Mikael Tam due to check from behind with only 3:40 gone in second period forcing the Remparts to kill a five-minute major penalty.

Dominating the second period Rimouski added a second goal with Trainor’s 20th goal of the season. Recently acquired from Saint John by the Oceanic (December 29), Scott Oke earned his first point with his new team with an assist on Rimouski second goal at 16:24.

A penalty to veteran forward Frederick Roy for delay of game proved to be costly for Quebec with Rimouski scoring third goal in the game, first with a man advantage on 4 power play opportunities. Rimouski captain Alex Emond deflected a shot from former Saint John Sea Dogs left winger Oke 3:10 into the third period.

Quebec will play their next game Wednesday visiting the Victoriaville Tigres.
