QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Winners of Friday night’s contest against the Remparts, the Oceanic had the chance to win the League championship, the Jean Rougeau trophy, in front of their fans. Michael Joly, with three goals and one assist and Alexis Loiseau with a goal and one assist lead their team to a 5-4 win over the Quebec Remparts.
After missing great opportunity to break the ice as Rimouski has been the beneficiary of a five-on-three power play for 19 seconds followed by a five-on-four for 1:40 seconds, The Oceanic scores twice in 32 seconds span.
After the Quebec goaltender Callum Booth made first save on Rimouski left winger Christopher Clapperton, Francois Beauchemin jump on the rebound to score his 8th goal of the season with 1:46 remaining to play in the opening period.
Back in the lineup after serving a two-game suspension, Oceanic right winger Michael Joly tip in the shot by teammates Anthony Chapados beating Quebec netminder top corner playing on their third power plays of the period.
If fans who came in the Financial life Arena to see their favorites has had to wait almost at the end of first period before seeing first two goals in the game by the home team scoring first two goals in 32 seconds, Quebec came out very strong in second periods with their first two goals in 29 seconds.
Anthony Duclair broke the ice for Quebec with Remparts first goal completing the effort of Yanick Turcotte and defenseman Nikolas Brouillard 2:04 into middle frame.
Twenty-nine seconds later it was third line center Massimo Carozza who had been forgotten in slot scoring his 15th of the regular season after perfect pass from teammate defenseman Ross McDougall at 2:33.
Rimouski came back to regain a one goal lead less than two minutes later. Seen his pass almost intercepted Michael Joly saw his teammate Alexis Loiseau completed the play scoring Rimouski third goal at 4:06 of the middle frame.
The Moncton Wildcats loss confirmed on scoreboard in the middle of the second period against the Charlottetown Islanders secured Rimouski first place overall in the QMJHL. The Oceanic won the Jean Rougeau au trophy for first time in last 10 years. It was Rimouski 3rd regular season title in their existence.
Quebec began the third period with Adam Erne scoring with his team playing with a man up. Erne’s shot beat Rimouski netminder over his right shoulder at 4:13.
Rimouski regained the lead for third times only 35 seconds later with second goals of the game by Joly. A turnover at Quebec blueline gave to Oceanic right winger the chance to take his first shot. After Booth made first save the Oceanic right winger push the puck that beat Quebec goalie between hi pads at 4:48.
Joly completed his hat trick less than two minutes later. Forgotten between two Quebec defensemen, Joly get perfect pass from Samuel Morin and like his second goal took his own rebound to score his 26th goals of the season playing four-on-four.
Trailing by two Quebec tried to come back as Duclair scores his second of the game with 15.9 seconds left on the clock. Quebec ended with two goals scored in four power plays opportunity.
Quebec will open the QMJHL first round series playing first two games at home on next Friday and Saturday on March 27 and 28. As of this writing unfortunately their first round opponent wasn’t determined yet. They will have to wait after Sunday’s games to know.
