QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Ending up on losing end in their first game the night before against Chicoutimi, Serge Beausoleil’s team came back on Friday with 5-0 win against Quebec Remparts. Undisciplined in their first game on Thursday taking nine penalties, Philippe Boucher’s team took nine penalties against the Oceanic opening the door to
power plays goals, in fact Rimouski scored three times with man up.
After scoring only one goal in first two periods, Rimouski added three others in the third period to complete the scoring leading to the shutout victory.
Jacob Bernard broke the ice in the opening period beating Quebec starting goaltender Oliver Troops with only 1:18 gone in first period. A 9th round selection (152nd overall) selection in 2016 played first two periods allowing two goals facing 24 shots.
Earning an invitation to Quebec training camp in 2016, the 5’11” 170 netminder allowed three goals in twenty minutes of play on 10 shots.
Rimouski came back in the middle frame scoring the only goal in the period taking advantage of their third power play opportunities in the game. Anthony D’amours scores his first of the tournament at 14:46 during the penalty to Quebec forward Tommy Vaugeois who had been found guilty for interference.
Selected first overall in 2017 QMJHL Alexis Lafreniere who already had scored his first goal in the tournament in Oceanic first game on Thursday night scored his second of the tournament at 5:26 beating Charles-Olivier Rancourt. Lafriere goal was Rimouski second power play goal in the game.
Oceanic came back 4:02 later scoring their fourth goal of the game as Alexandre Lessard-Divers scored his first of the tournament.
Rimouski complete the scoring 59 seconds later (10:27) with their third goal with a man advantage. Selected in 8th round (133rd overall) in 2016 Adam Fiore earned the distinction of scoring the last goal of the game giving a 5-0 win to Rimouski over Quebec losing times in the tournament.
Colten Ellis began the game facing only 9 shots blocking all of them but left at 9:47 in second period replaced by Raphael Audet at 9:47 in middle frame. Audet ended the game facing 15 shots making 15 saves.
Quebec will return in action on Saturday playing their third game of the tournament at 14:00 facing Chicoutimi.
