Rimouski open the scoring playing in shorthanded situation. Trying to kill penalty to teammate defenseman Francois Beauchemin Oceanic and former Blainville-Boisbriand left winger Christopher Clapperton surprised Quebec goaltender Zachary Fucale to his left side with long wrist shot with 2:40 gone in the first period.

The Oceanic add second goal to their lead in middle frame. Defenseman Samuel Morin slap shot beat Quebec netminder to his left side even if Fucale touch the puck with 14:12 left in second period.

Quebec broke the ice scoring their first goal with 12:25 to go. Driving to the net Anthony Duclair took first shot, unable to keep the rebound Rimouski netminder Philippe Desrosiers saw Quebec left winger Marc-Olivier Roy pushed the puck behind Oceanic goalie.

The visitor regained their two goal leads exactly one minute later. Losing the puck in his own zone Quebec defenseman Raphael Maheux lose the puck to Alexis L’oiseau. Anthony DeLuca redirect L’oiseau’s shot for his 44th goal of the season.

Quebec came back scoring their second goal playing on their fourth power plays of the game. Forgotten to Desrosiers left side Quebec captain Kurt Etchegary beat Oceanic netminder on left side with 8:38 remaining in second period.

Rimouski regained their two goal leads for second times in the game with 10.8 seconds left in middle frame. Already beating Quebec goalie with a long wrist shot on Rimouski second goal in the game first of three goals scored by the visitors in second period the Philadelphia Flyers first round pick in 2013 (11th overall) scores his second of the game as his deflected shot beat Fucale to his right side.

Allowing four goals on 17 shots in forty minutes of play, Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher decided to begin the third period with Callum Booth.

The arrival of Booth in the game seem to give some energy to the home team scoring a third goal gutting Rimouski lead to only one goal for second times. Playing in shorthanded situation Marc-Olivier Roy made perfect pass to Anthony Duclair on a two-on-one breakaway beating Desrosiers with backhanded shot to his right side.

Quebec got great opportunity to bring both teams back to square one playing on their fifth power play. But unfortunately for the 13051 fans in the Pepsi Colisee Rimouski successfully killed that penalty preserving a one goal lead until the end of the game.

For Rimouski head coach Serge Beausoleil his team shows lots of character with eight players out of the lineup. “Yes it was big victory, we saw we lose our momentum on our power play in third period they (Quebec) got devastated force in offensive but we successfully get back in second portion of the period to get the two points. We were tested on our depth lately with eight players out of the lineup. It will be nice to see Joly coming back tomorrow. Guys continued to believe, to work hard giving us the chance to keep the lead.” Oceanic head coach Serge Beausoleil said.

On Quebec side Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher pointed his team execution as key to explain his team loss. “Yes the effort was there,” answered Boucher to first question. “But I would say the executions was the main reason why his team ended on wrong end of the rope. We look like rusty by moment, sometimes these things happened so we have to keep things simple.”

“That is what Rimouski did they weren’t first overall for nothing, they kept things little more simple than us.” Ended Quebec head coach Boucher.

Before the game the Quebec organization honored former Quebec defenseman Marc-Edward Vlasic by upholding his number 44 to Quebec Colisee roof in honor of San Jose defenseman who played three years in Quebec.
