Right wing of Flyers has talent in the pipeline

PHILADELPHIA, Pa – The Philadelphia Flyers have focused on acquiring scoring talent in recent drafts ever since Chuck Fletcher has been the General Manager and has focused more on drafting right-wing prospects. Nine of the 14 forwards Fletcher have taken are the right, 3 on left, and 1 center (although the game plan is to more Cutter Gauthier (LW) to center).  A case could be made that the strength of the Flyers forwards overall in both the currently roster and in the pipeline are at RW.

The Flyers currently have Travis Konecny and Wade Allison, while Owen Tippett and Bobby Brink are on the injured list. Brink and Allison are the ones to watch in the Flyers system. If the Flyers have another season like last year, the draft might product another quality prospect right-winger to show off in a couple of years in the Flyer can land Russian phenom Matvei Michkov, but after him the top 15 picks could be mostly centers or left-wingers.

Today we look at the top Philadelphia Flyers right-wing prospects in the Flyers system.

Wade Allison – The Western Michigan product scored 10 goals and 7 assists in only 28 games but like most of his hockey career so far injuries have told his story. A second-round pick in 2016, and Allison is widely regarded by the Flyers. If he stays healthy could be on the Flyers roster for a long time.

Bobby Brink – The second-round pick from Denver University is highly regarded and his play at Denver winning the NCAA Tournament has Flyers management drooling to get him back on the ice sooner rather than later.

Tyson Foerster – A first round pick in 2020, his NHL ready shot and scoring ability has Flyers fans asking why he isn’t on the currently roster, but the reality is he needs a full season of AHL competition against experienced hockey players is exactly what he needs right now.

Samu Tuomaala – The Finish native had a rough season last year, but the second pick should be worth the wait if only for his speed. He would be NHL bound if that was the only criteria, but he turns 20 in January so he can’t play in the AHL at least until then. Expect Tuomaala to come overseas over the summer to start his pro career in the A. Once he makes the Flyers roster, keeping him out of the Flyers lineup might be tough to do if he discovers his scoring touch.

Zayde Wisdom – Wisdom is not flashy by any means, but what he lacks in skill he makes up for in other ways. Wisdom is a very popular among his peers and could be a solid third line winger on day.
