Morgan Rielly was placed on long-term injured reserve by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday because of a knee injury.
The defenseman had two shots on goal in 16:38 of ice time in a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders on Monday. Rielly has 16 assists in 20 games this season, second on the team behind Mitchell Marner (19).
By being placed on long-term injured reserve, Rielly will be out a minimum of 24 days and 10 games.
Rielly leads the Maple Leafs in ice time per game (23:00) and is third in blocked shots (24) behind Justin Holl (43) and Mark Giordano (42).
Defenseman Mac Hollowell and Victor Mete were recalled from Toronto of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. Hollowell has nine assists in 11 AHL games this season and has yet to play in the NHL. Mete has one assist in five games with the Maple Leafs and no points in six AHL games.
The Maple Leafs (10-5-5) visit the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; SNE, SNO, SNP, MSG, MSGSN2, ESPN+, SN NOW).
