Reign silenced in 3-0 loss to Aces Ontario blanked for fourth time this season

ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign (30-16-3-5), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, fell in a 3-0 shutout loss to the Alaska Aces (27-23-3-3) in front of a crowd of 6,502 on Tuesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Despite outshooting the Aces by a 12-4 margin in the first period, Ontario yielded the only goal of the period to Alaska when Michael Markovic received a backdoor feed from Jacob Doty and jammed the puck past Adam Brown at 4:28. Alaska Aces logo

In the second period, Ryan Walters extended the Aces’ lead to three goals; the first at 9:22, and then the second came during a shorthanded situation in which Walters spun away from a Reign defender and then lifted the puck with a backhand shot into the top corner of the net at 14:01.

Troy Redmann, meanwhile, continued to deny the Reign offense, highlighted by several glove saves at point-blank range.

Jussi Olkinuora replaced Brown at the start of the third period, but the goaltender change could not reverse the three-goal deficit, as Redmann and the Aces hung on for the victory.

Brown took the loss with eight saves in 40 minutes of action, while Olkinuora stopped four shots in the final 20 minutes of regulation; Redmann earned the shutout victory with 28 saves.
