Reign Rally in Third Period; Fall Short in Game 2

San Jose, CA – Defenseman Kurtis MacDermid and forward Jonny Brodzinski scored goals in the third period, but the Ontario Reign (1-1) fell to the San Jose Barracuda (1-1) 3-2 in Game 2 of the Pacific Division Semifinals Saturday evening at SAP Center. The Barracuda opened the scoring early in the second period when forward Ryan Carpenter deflected a shot from the defenseman Joakim Ryan between the legs of Reign netminder Peter Budaj (L, 12 saves on 15 shots) at 3:58. Forward Bryan Lerg made it 2-0 at 13:37, powering to the top of the goal crease off the right-wing boards with help from Ryan and Barracuda goalie Aaron Dell (W, 34 saves on 35 shots).

Early in the third period, the Reign responded as MacDermid rifled in his second goal of the playoffs over Dell from the right point at 2:40. Forwards Joel Lowry and Paul Bissonnette added assists. Moments later, forward Nikolay Goldobin reclaimed a two-goal advantage for the Barracuda at 8:23. With Budaj pulled for the extra skater late in the contest, Brodzinski registered his second goal of the postseason with 35 seconds remaining, but the Reign ran out of time for the equalizing tally. Forward Nic Dowd and defenseman Kevin Gravel picked up assists.

The Reign finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play while the Barracuda went 0-for-1.
