Reid blast wins it in OT

Brodie Reid scored on the powerplay in overtime to give the Cardiff Devils a 2-3 win over the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze at Skydome Arena.

The Devils opened the scoring early with eventual game winner Reid beating Blaze goalie Paavo Holsa one-on-one at 1.04.

Coventry’s league best powerplay quickly cancelled out Reid’s marker with Mitch Cook tipping home a David Clements shot from the blue-line at 9.25.

Man of the match Cook then doubled his tally on the man advantage at 15.19, finishing a well-worked move and pass by Johnny Curran to make it 2-1.

Devils again scored quickly to open the second period with Trevor Cox making it 2-2 just 40 seconds into the middle frame.

With both goalies playing well and each team showing a strong commitment to shot blocking, the score remained tied after 40 minutes.

Holsa and Taran Kozun each continued their excellent form in the third period, with both denying what appeared to be certain game winners.

However, neither could score again in the sixty minutes of regulation time and so the game went to overtime.

Blaze had a powerplay chance at the end of regulation time which stretched into the additional period, but they couldn’t capitalise.

The Devils did just that when they got their own chance on the powerplay with Reid blasting the puck past Holsa 1.44 into overtime to win the additional point for the travelling side.
