Redskins recruitment rolls on

LONDON, UK – Streatham Redskins today announced the return of two key players for the 2010/11 season.
Winger Liam Rasmussen and defence man Casimir Madren-Britton both agreed to sign up for another campaign with the South London club. Both are products of the Streatham junior development system and were impressive for different reasons last season.

Rasmussen started the season on the third line but his rapid improvement as the season progressed saw him elevated to the first line by the end of the campaign. His lung busting bursts down the wing enabled him to score some spectacular goals for the Redskins and made him a real favourite with the fans. Rasmussen ended last season with nine goals and eight assists but will be expected to play a major role from the start of the coming season. Redskins Head Coach Barry Spours is in no doubt that Rasmussen can play a major role for the team this year:
“Liam really came into his own last season and went from being a great prospect to a great offensive player” said Spours. “For the last few seasons Liam has been touted as a great prospect but last season he really fulfilled his potential. Liam will figure strongly in my plans for the coming season as he stepped up to our first line towards the end of last year and picked up some of the best goals of the season,
“He is now working well with experienced playmakers to get himself into great scoring opportunities and now has the confidence to put away those chances. Liam has the skill to take the game to the opposition and I fully expect Liam to be one of our top point scorers this season,
“The great thing is Liam believes in himself now and that really shows in his confidence out on the ice. I really believe that he can take his game up a level this year and position himself as one of the best forwards in the league; he has it within him to achieve that aim”

Madren-Britton also had a good season last year for the Redskins in a campaign that saw him make more appearances than any other member of the squad. He was a permanent fixture on the first line and showed composure beyond his years whilst under pressure. The teenager posted fourteen assists in a real breakthrough year that Spours is hoping he can build on:
“Caz had an outstanding season at Streatham last year and I believe that working alongside such experienced defensemen as Ed Koral and Lukas Zilak has given him the experience and ice time needed to stake a claim to being one of those ‘go-to’ guys on the team” said Spours. “He regularly put in huge amounts of ice time, worked tirelessly on penalty kill and power play units. Due to his height he has an imposing presence on the ice and at only 18 years of age this is something that will garner greater respect as he matures as a player,
“He has great hands for such a big guy and this often catches the opposition off guard. Caz is a key part of our defensive strength and with so many years ahead of him is one of the clubs most valuable prospects,
“Both these two young local players just go to show that Streatham still can develop the home grown talent that the club has such a rich history of producing”
