In Detroit, Adam Erne broke a 2-2 tie in the third period to help the Red Wings defeat the visiting St Louis Blues, 4-2, on Wednesday night.
Alex Nedeljkovic made 35 saves in the Detroit win.
“[Nedeljkovic] was unbelievable tonight, especially in the third,” Detroit head coach Jeff Blashill said. “He stole one for us.”
Pavel Buchnevich and David Perron hit for the Blues goals.
“I thought we played a really good game,” the Blues’ Ryan O’Reilly said. “We just didn’t get the results we wanted.”
St Louis dropped to 10-7-2.
“That’s one of those games where you just have to tip your hat to the goaltender,” Blues head coach Craig Berube said. “We could have easily had five or six goals tonight — we created enough chances, and we got the shots we needed — he was just that good.”
Buchnevich gave the Blues a 1-0 lead in the first period.
Dylan Larkin had a goal and two points for the Red Wings.
Detroit improved to 9-9-3.
“This gets us back to [.500] and we have a chance to build on that on Saturday (against the Buffalo Sabres),” Blashill said. “You don’t want to drop below that level, and now we have a number of games at home (four of next five) to get some points.”
Lucas Raymond tied the game, 1-1, for the Red Wings.
“We made a few too many defensive mistakes tonight,” the Blues’ Jordan Kyrou said. “We have to be better at that, and I’m including myself there.”
Robby Fabbri hit for an empty-net goal late in the third for the 4-2 final.
“It was awesome to see [Fabbri] get a goal tonight,” Nedeljkovic said. “That’s where he started his career, and he had a really special run there. It was awesome for him to finish it off.”
Ville Husso made 19 saves in the St Louis loss.
