GLENDALE, Ariz – With as much promise as the Coyotes showed, it was not enough to break through the experience of the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit won game seven in convincing fashion, 6-1 and now move on to face to the San Jose Sharks.
Pavel Datsyuk was the scoring leader on the night with two goals in less than two minutes as the Red Wings dominated form the opening whistle to the end. The effort was a far cry from the poor performance on home ice Sunday when the Coyotes won in Detroit to force the deciding game seven.
Ilya Bryzgalov was blasted all night as the Wings launched 50 shots to 33 for the Coyotes. In fact, Detroit outshot Phoenix 39-21 over the first 40-minutes of play. That the score was as low as it was is a credit to Bryzgalov’s heroics in net.
Detroit went 3 for 6 on the power play while the Coyotes were scoreless in five opportunities.
Up next for the Red Wings is another young, hungry team, the San Jose Sharks who have had time to rest while the Red Wings were extended by Phoenix.
