It’s going from bad to worse in Detroit. On Monday night, the Red Wings list their eighth game in a row, this time, 4-1, to the New York Islanders on home ice.
“It’s another game where we generate offense and generate offense and then they go down and score a goal,” Red Wings center Dylan Larkin said. “We need to find a way to score more than we seem capable of right now. That’s something the forwards have to fix.”
Jordan Eberle scored twice in the win.
“I felt like I’ve had a ton of chances since I came back from the injury, but nothing has gone in,” Eberle said. “You get frustrated and you start gripping the stick too tight, but you just have to keep working. It’s a funny game; you go that long without scoring and then you get two.”
Semyon Varlamov made 30 saves in the win.
Anders Lee opened the scoring for the Siles.
“Varlamov has been really strong for us and that was especially true tonight,” Lee said. “When you have [Varlamov] and [Thomas Greiss] playing behind you, it gives you a lot of confidence. If you make a mistake, you know they are back there.”
Larkin was the only goal scorer for Detroit.
Anthony Beauvillier also scored for the Islanders.
“If you stay 5-on-5 and play the way we’re capable of, I felt very comfortable,” Islanders coach Barry Trotz said. “But we took too many penalties and the dam finally broke. Our penalty killers did a really good job, but they make it 2-1 and finally we were able to get something at the end of the first 5-on-3.”

Jonathan Bernier made 21 saves.
“There have been some points in this season where I haven’t liked our penalty kill, but I like our penalty kill right now,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. “I haven’t liked the power play much, but tonight it actually showed some signs of life.”
