A three-goal thud period by the Detroit Red Wings sent the Predators to a 5-3 loss in Nashville.
Tyler Bertuzzi had two goals in the win.
“That was a fun game for us,” said Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin (goal and an assist). “Everyone battled. Like I’ve said the entire preseason from the opening interviews, I think we can shock people. We have guys that are warriors, guys that compete hard every night. For our line, we were clicking tonight.”
Jimmy Howard made 39 saves to get the win in the Wings’ first game of the season.
Viktor Arvidsson, Filip Forsberg and Mattias Ekholm struck for goals for the Preds who dropped to 1+1+0/
“I thought they were just quicker than us, a little bit more competitive,” Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. “They got some opportunities, and they were able to capitalize. Not the first period we wanted to play.”
Luke Glendening scored the game-winner midway in the third.
“[Glendening] is just a winner,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. “At different times in my time with him, I’ve tried to not play him as much, and he just always forces me to play him more, whether it was here, whether it was in [Grand Rapids in the American Hockey League] or in the [IIHF World Championships]. He’s just a winner. He’s a winner of a player.”
Anthony Mantha also scored for the Red Wings.

Juuse Saros made 23 saves in the loss.
“Tough loss for us,” Ekholm said. “I thought we could’ve played a little bit better in the first and overall could have matched them a little bit better. They deserved the win tonight.”
