Red Wings end Bruins run with 5-3 win Bruins have lost 2 of 3 since streak was snapped at 10

In Detroit, the Red Wings stormed out to a 4-0 lead in a Sunday matinee with the Boston Bruins, then  held on for a 5-3 win.“This was a huge test and a huge opportunity for us,” Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. “We had back-to-back games against a team that’s on a record pace and we played two great games.”

Alex Chiasson got the offense going for the Red Wings when he staked them to a 1-0 lad in the first period.

Ville Husso made 30 saves in the Detroit win.

The Red Wings moved to 30-27-9.

“I’m really proud of how we never backed down against a team that could be remembered as one of the best in League history,” Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. “We were competitive for six periods, and I’m glad we got rewarded with a win today.”

In the middle frame, the Red Wings piled on the offense with three more goals for the 4-0 advantage.

Mortiz Seider doubled the lead to 2-0 at 6:34 off a shorthanded strike.

“In our system, I’m pressuring the entry, and I saw I had a chance to force something there,” Seider said. “I had some pressure on my forehand side, so I went backhand. Luckily, I got it over his glove, because that’s not a shot I practice every day.”

Dylan Larkin pushed the lad to 3-0 on a power play strike midway through the second period.

Adam Erne scored at 15:08 of the second to balloon the lead to 4-0.

The Bruins got one back on a strike from Matt Grzelcyk  at 16:52 to trim the deficit to 4-1.

“We aren’t the kind of team that is ever going to collapse in a spot like that,” Grzelcyk said. “I knew we would fight back, but it was a little too late.”

Boston “dropped” to 50-10-5.

“I think Detroit outskated us and outworked us,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. “I didn’t think we had the compete level to win one-on-one puck battles in the first two periods.”

The Bruins are 1-2-0 since their 10-game winning steak was snapped by the Edmonton Oilers earlier in the week.

In the third, Jake DeBrusk clawed one more back for the Bruins on a breakaway in the fourth minute of the stanza to make it 4-2 to Detroit.

Two minutes later David Pastrnak scored to get the Bruins within one, 4-3, at 6:24 of the third.

Andrew Copp scored into an empty net with 24 seconds left on the clock for the 5-3 final.

Jeremy Swayman made 21 saves in the Boston loss.
