Red Wings blow two leads, lose to Caps, 4-3, in OT Detroit blows, 2-0 and 3-2 leads in loss -

In Washington, DC, the Capitals rallied from 2-0, of course, and 3-2 deficits on Monday to down the Detroit Red Wings, 4-3, in extra time.

Dmitry Orlov hot for the game-winner with 22 seconds left in the extra session for the win.

Charlie Lindgren made 16 saves in the Caps win.

“Just some really good stuff by a lot of guys and to see ‘Dowder’ score a couple, it was great to see,” Lindgren said. “He’s a guy that works extremely hard. He’s a great guy in the room. Thought he played excellent tonight after not playing last game.”

Detroit took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from David Perron for a 1-0 lead, and Oskar Sundqvist on the power play for the 2-0 advantage after one period.

Detroit dropped to 13-11-7.

“Probably any other time in the season this is a pretty good point on the road,” Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. “The fact that we’re on a [rough] stretch leaves you a little bit frustrated, even in overtime. We get the Grade-A, inner-slot chance (by Filip Hronek), we put a dent in the crossbar. Theirs goes post-in from outside the scoring area.”

Nic Dowd hit for an 11 second double in the middle frame when he scored at 15:35 to get the Caps to within 2-0 and then again at 15″46 for the tie.

”I don’t know if we’ve had one of those (kind of games) in our building this year,” Dowd said. ”To come from behind and then come from behind again the very next shift and then win in overtime, especially like that … that was one of our biggest crowds of the year. That felt really good for our team.”

Detroit reclaimed the lad at 4:49 of the third on a strike from Lucas Raymond

“We played much more of our identity [tonight], hard to play against,” Detroit captain Dylan Larkin said. “We forechecked hard, we battled. It was like a playoff game tonight.”

Erik Gustafsson forced the extra session with the tying goal at 5:59 of the third, 3-3.

Ville Husso made 38 saves in the Red Wings loss.

“It’s just like any other time you play him; he’s going to get his chances,” Larkin said. “Husso was really good against him tonight. They were in our zone a lot, they generated a lot of offense tonight. We just tried to stay tight to him and not give him time and space to shoot the puck.”
