Recap of NHL from 3 December 2025

Roope Hintz hit the 400-point milestone and Jamie Benn passed Neal Broten on a franchise list as the Stars extended their franchise-best road point streak to 12 games.
* The Capitals and Mammoth both skated to seven-goal outings on Wednesday and are now within the top six highest-scoring teams this season (WSH: 2nd, UTA: 6th).

* Twenty teams will be in action across Thursday’s slate, including four who will be participating in an ESPN+ doubleheader that will start with the Blue Jackets hosting the Red Wings and end with the Blackhawks visiting the Kings.

HINTZ HITS 400 POINTS AS STARS STRETCH ROAD POINT STREAK TO 12
Roope Hintz (0-1—1) hit the 400-point milestone, Jamie Benn (0-2—2) climbed a Stars/North Stars multi-point list and Jake Oettinger (30 saves) moved up a pair of franchise lists as Dallas extended its road point streak to 12 games and established the longest run in franchise history. The Stars improved to 10-1-4 on the road in 2025-26 – the club has hit the 10-win mark faster as the visitor only twice: 2015-16 (12 GP) and 2005-06 (13 GP).

* Benn collected his 226th career multi-point game and surpassed Neal Broten for the second most in Stars/North Stars history. The only player with more is Mike Modano (358).

* Oettinger posted his 161st career win and passed Ed Belfour (160) for the third most in Stars/North Stars history. Oettinger also notched his 14th shutout and tied Ben Bishop for fifth most in franchise history.

* Hintz improved his career totals to 183-217—400 (491 GP) and became the third-fastest player in Stars team history to record 400 career points behind Jason Robertson (378 GP) and Benn (457 GP). Modano hit the mark in 392 games but began his career with the North Stars prior to the club relocating to Dallas.

MAMMOTH, CAPITALS SKATE TO SEVEN-GOAL OUTINGS

The Capitals and Mammoth both scored seven goals and were led by four-point efforts from Washington rookie Ryan Leonard (2-2—4) and Utah forward JJ Peterka (2-2—4). In doing so, the Capitals extended their winning streak to six games – the longest active run in the NHL – while the Mammoth tied the second-largest margin of victory by any team this season.

* Leonard became the fourth Capitals player over the past 40 years to record a four-point game at age 20 or younger, joining Nicklas Backstrom (5x; last: Nov. 15, 2008), Alex Ovechkin (2x; last: Dec. 22, 2005) and Jaroslav Svejkovsky (April 13, 1997). He also became the first Washington rookie to record a four-point outing since Backstrom on March 3, 2008 and the first across the League since Will Smith last season (April 9, 2025).

* Leonard tied Travis Boyd (28 GP in 2018-19) and John Carlson (28 GP in 2010-11) for the third-fewest games to 10 assists in a season by a Capitals rookie over the past 25 years. The list is led by Backstrom (22 GP in 2007-08) and Ovechkin (24 GP in 2005-06), with the latter also scoring twice on Wednesday. Ovechkin continues THE GR8 CHASE for Victory Over Cancer with the Capitals, Hockey Fights Cancer and V Foundation by personally donating to pediatric cancer research for each regular-season goal he scores for the remainder of his career. * Peterka improved his 2025-26 totals to 12-9—21 and now has the third-most points by any player skating on a new team this season, behind Philadelphia’s Trevor Zegras (26) and Vegas’ Mitch Marner (25). His 12 goals are the second most, trailing Anaheim’s Chris Kreider (13-6-19—23 GP). Peterka recorded the fifth four-point outing by a Mammoth player in 2025-26, which is the second most among all teams behind the Avalanche who have seen six.

Travis Konecny, Trevor Zegras and Bobby Brink combined for a trio of goals in just 59 second – the second-fastest three goals by one team this season behind Philadelphia’s own mark set on Nov. 22 (0:26 at NJD) – while Ivan Demidov required the second-fewest games by a teenager in Canadiens history to reach 20 points in a campaign. TWENTY TEAMS IN ACTION ACROSS THURSDAY’S SLATE

Another 10-game night is on the docket Thursday and will feature an ESPN+ doubleheader beginning with the Blue Jackets hosting the Red Wings and ending with the Blackhawks visiting the Kings in the first of two consecutive games between the teams in Los Angeles.

* Alex DeBrincat enters the contest riding an 11-game road point streak against the Blue Jackets dating to Oct. 20, 2018 and can establish the longest such run in NHL history against Columbus (also Anze Kopitar w/ 11 GP). He will have to find a way to do so against defenseman Zach Werenski (9-17—26), who leads his club in scoring again after doing so last season. Werenski is one away from his eighth career 10-goal season, a feat only forwards Boone Jenner (9x), Rick Nash (9x) and Cam Atkinson (8x) have achieved for the franchise.

* The Kings will aim to extend their home point streak against the Blackhawks to 10 games (7-0-2 from March 2, 2019) when they welcome Connor Bedard into town for the first of two straight games in Los Angeles. Bedard (17-21—38 in 26 GP) is on an eight-game road point streak and sits two points away from matching Bobby Hull (27 GP in 1964-65) for the 10th-fewest games in Blackhawks history to reach the 40-point mark in a season. The only Chicago player to reach the mark within 27 contests at age 20 or younger was Denis Savard (24 GP in 1981-82).
