16 HIGHLIGHTS FROM TUESDAY’S 16-GAME NHL FROZEN FRENZY

The third NHL Frozen Frenzy concluded with a plethora of notes from each of the 32 teams in action. All #NHLStats from Frozen Frenzy can be found in Live Updates, including the following 16 highlights from Tuesday’s thrilling 16-game slate:

1. Tuesday featured 109 combined goals (including two shootout deciders), with Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke scoring the final tally of the 16-game day nearly 7.5 hours after Flames forward Morgan Frost had the first. The 109 goals were five back of the highest single-day total in NHL history (114 on Nov. 4, 2023).

2. Victor Olofsson (3-2—5), Cale Makar (0-4—4) and Nathan MacKinnon (2-1—3) each had multi-point outings to lead the Avalanche to victory in a 12-goal duel against the Devils – the highest-scoring game during Frozen Frenzy. Olofsson became the fourth different player in Avalanche team history (since 1995-96) to record a five-point game at age 30 or older, following Joe Sakic (Feb. 15, 2007 & Jan. 2, 2001), Milan Hejduk (Dec. 9, 2007) and Claude Lemieux (Nov. 18, 1997).

3. Logan Cooley got the scoring started with his League-leading fourth game-opening goal of 2025-26 and became the first player in NHL history to tally each of his first eight goals in a season during first periods. The Oilers, however, rallied in the middle frame with the season’s first five-goal period by one team and picked up the victory which saw Evan Bouchard (0-3—3), Leon Draisaitl (1-1—2), and Connor McDavid (2-0—2) hit scoring plateaus and climb all-time franchise lists.

4. Connor Bedard (3-1—4) scored his first career hat trick to help the Blackhawks outlast the Senators in a 10-goal thriller. Bedard also recorded his third career four-point game – only three other Blackhawks skaters have posted as many before age 21: Bobby Hull (5), Denis Savard (4) and Jeremy Roenick (3).

5. Leo Carlsson (1-1—2) opened the scoring in Anaheim’s shootout win with his second career shorthanded goal and became the third Swedish player in NHL history with multiple before age 21, joining Gabriel Landeskog (3) and Mats Sundin (2). Tuesday was Carlsson’s 18th career multi-point outing – he surpassed Trevor Zegras for the most by a Ducks player at age 20 or younger.

6. Zegras (2-7—9 in 9 GP) continued his point-per-game start with the Flyers and has recorded an assist/point in every home game this season (2-6—8 in 6 GP). Zegras became the fifth player in Flyers history with a season-opening home assist streak of at least six games, joining Claude Giroux (9 GP in 2014-15), Mark Recchi (9 GP in 1992-93), Peter Forsberg (8 GP in 2005-06) and Bobby Clarke (7 GP in 1982-83) and the first Flyers player since Giroux (7 GP) and Wayne Simmonds (6 GP) in 2016-17 to record a point in each of the team’s first six home games of a season.

7. Jack Eichel (2-1—3) factored on three goals, including the game winner, to help lift the Golden Knights to their fourth comeback win of the season – tied with the Senators, Flyers, Canadiens and Jets for the second most behind the Mammoth (5). Eichel, celebrating his 29th birthday, improved his 2025-26 totals 8-11—19 and became the fifth different American player in NHL history with as many points through his team’s first 10 games of a season, alongside Pat LaFontaine (29 in 1992-93), Kevin Stevens (26 in 1992-93 & 19 in 1990-91), Jack Hughes (20 in 2023-24) and John LeClair (19 in 1995-96).

8. Drew Doughty scored his first goal of the season and Corey Perry tallied to extend his point streak in a win that saw the Kings quell a three-goal Sharks rally. Doughty tied Rob Blake (166) for the most goals by a defenseman in franchise history, while Perry became the oldest Los Angeles skater to post a four-game point streak.

9. Max Domi and Matthew Knies each scored twice as the Maple Leafs captured their seventh straight win against the Flames – their longest active win streak against a single franchise. William Nylander (3-12—15), who assisted on the second of two Toronto tying tallies, owns the third most (tied) among all players in 2025-26 and became the fifth different Maple Leafs player with at least a dozen assists through the team’s first 10 games. The others: Gus Bodnar (14 in 1944-45), Doug Gilmour (13 in 1992-93 & 12 in 1993-94), Bryan McCabe (12 in 2005-06) and Borje Salming (13 in 1980-81).

10. Cole Caufield (2-1—3) opened the scoring and collected his 11th career overtime goal to pass Howie Morenz and Max Pacioretty (both w/ 10) for the most in franchise history as well as former teammate Sean Monahan (10) for the most in NHL history by a player before age 25. Nick Suzuki pocketed the primary assist on each Caufield goal and extended his point streak to a career high-tying 10 games (also 10 GP from Jan. 20 – Feb. 17, 2024).

11. Kyle Connor and Miles Wood accounted for the two other overtime goals. Connor notched his 61st career game-winning goal to match teammate Mark Scheifele for the most in franchise history, while Connor’s 13 career overtime goals move him into sixth all-time among American players behind Max Pacioretty (16), Johnny Gaudreau (15), Patrick Kane (14), J.T. Miller (14) and Auston Matthews (14).

12. Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin (2-1—3) scored two of his team’s five goals as Detroit earned back-to-back wins against the Blues. He became the fourth Red Wings player in the past 30 years to record eight or more goals through the team’s first 10 games of a season, joining Alex DeBrincat (9 in 2023-24), Sergei Fedorov (8 in 2002-03) and Brendan Shanahan (8 in 2001-02).

13. Morgan Geekie converted on a nearly 100 mph slap shot to record his team-leading eighth goal of the season and help the Bruins beat the Islanders. Geekie logged the hardest shot during Frozen Frenzy according to NHL EDGE.

14. Lightning forward Charle-Edouard D’Astous (27 years, 190 days) was one of four players to score his first NHL goal during Frozen Frenzy (also Calgary’s Samuel Honzek, Colorado’s Zakhar Bardakov & Buffalo’s Josh Dunne). D’Astous became the fourth-oldest Lightning player at the time of his first goal behind Eric Perrin (31 years, 1 day), David Koci (27 years, 318 days) and Tim Wallace (27 years, 210 days).

15. Jonathan Quick (23 saves) recorded his 64th career shutout to tie longtime Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist for 17th place on the NHL’s all-time list. Quick earned his 406th career win and needs one to tie Glenn Hall (407) for 12th place in League history.

16. Jake Oettinger (24 saves) helped the Stars blank the Capitals to keep pace with countryman Quick, who has the most shutouts in NHL history among American goaltenders. Oettinger recorded his 13th career shutout to pass Jon Casey (12) for sixth place on the franchise’s all-time list.
