Recap of NHL from 25 October 2025

Simon Edvinsson accounted for the final two of the Red Wings’ six unanswered goals as Detroit rallied past St. Louis to log the League’s first four-goal comeback win this season.

* Brandon Montour helped the Kraken defeat the Oilers in his emotional return to Seattle’s lineup.

* Eleven of 13 games were decided by a one-goal margin or two-plus including at least one empty-netter Saturday, with 78% of all contests this season meeting that criteria (108 of 139 GP).

* Sunday’s eight-game schedule starts with Jack Hughes and the surging Devils hosting Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche during a matinee on Sportsnet and NHL Network.

RED WINGS RALLY FROM FOUR DOWN, SCORE SIX STRAIGHT FOR THE WIN

St. Louis got the scoring started in Detroit with four straight goals, but the Red Wings began their rally in the middle frame which saw tallies from five different players, capped by Simon Edvinsson, who netted the deciding marker and iced the game with an empty netter. It marked the first four-goal comeback victory of the season and the first since Nashville’s on Jan. 21, 2025.

* Edvinsson became the sixth defenseman in Red Wings history to register multiple multi-goal games at age 22 or younger (also Feb. 25, 2025), joining Nicklas Lidstrom (3), Willie Huber (3), Reed Larson (3), Marcel Pronovost (3) and Steve Chiasson (2).

* The Red Wings earned their fifth four-goal comeback win in franchise history following Dec. 28, 2022 (at PIT), Dec. 4, 1984 (vs. TOR), Feb. 22, 1972 (vs. TOR) and Nov. 3, 1960 (vs. BOS).

MONTOUR HELPS SEATTLE DEFEAT EDMONTON IN EMOTIONAL RETURN TO LINEUP
Brandon Montour was on the ice for the final 2:22 to help preserve a one-goal victory in the Kraken defenseman’s first game since his older brother, Cameron, passed away after a battle with ALS.

* Montour honored his brother by sporting a shirt that read “Cam Strong” at Climate Pledge Arena, where Seattle stretched its season-opening home winning streak to three games. Montour was signed by the Kraken after capturing a championship with the Panthers and spent his day with the Stanley Cup that summer alongside Cameron in their hometown of Ohsweken, Ont.

KUCHEROV, HEDMAN HIT MAJOR MILESTONES IN LIGHTNING VICTORY

It was a night of milestones for Lightning stars Nikita Kucherov (0-2—2) and Victor Hedman (0-2—2). Kucherov collected his 1,000th career point, triggering teammates to clear the bench and embrace him for the historic occasion, while Hedman reached the 800-point milestone just over two minutes after. The duo also factored on a go-ahead goal with less than four minutes left in regulation to seal the victory.

* Kucherov (809 GP) became the fourth-fastest player born outside North America to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He trails only Peter Stastny (682 GP), Jari Kurri (716 GP) and Jaromir Jagr (763 GP).

* The Lightning forward has collected all 1,001 of his points with Jon Cooper at the helm. He became the fifth player in NHL history to score 1,000 career points with a single head coach, joining Wayne Gretzky (1,640 w/ Glen Sather), Bryan Trottier (1,167 w/ Al Arbour), Stan Mikita (1,074 w/ Billy Reay) and Mike Bossy (1,051 w/ Arbour). Of note, the only other players among that cohort to record their first 1,000 career points with a single head coach are Trottier and Bossy.

* Hedman became the fifth player and first defenseman in Lightning history to record 800 career points. He also became just the third active blueliner to reach the mark, following Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson.

WARREN’S NHL DEBUT WITH HOMETOWN ISLANDERS FEATURED IN LIVE UPDATES
Saturday’s edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates featured more notes from the 13-game slate. Some highlights include:

* After netting a hat trick in the opening 11 minutes against the Blues on Thursday, Logan Cooley (2-1—3) needed just 3:29 to score a pair against the Wild as the Mammoth extended their franchise-record winning streak to six games – the second-longest run in the NHL this season behind the Devils (7 GP; active). Cooley recorded consecutive three-point games for the second time in his career and became the fourth American skater to accomplish the feat before age 22, following Jack Hughes (2x in 2021-22), Jeremy Roenick (2x in 1991-92) and Jimmy Carson (3x from 1987-88 – 1988-89).

* Lane Hutson (0-1—1) collected his 70th career assist and helped the Canadiens earn a third-period comeback win for the third time this season – the most among all teams. Hutson (94 GP) tied Cale Makar and Larry Murphy for the second-fewest games to 70 career assists by a defenseman, trailing only Mark Howe (91 GP).

* Miro Heiskanen (2-0—2) tallied twice to help the Stars earn a comeback win and became the seventh Finnish defenseman in NHL history to score 60 career goals. Heiskanen, who is set to represent Team Finland at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, also registered his sixth career multi-goal game and moved past Joni Pitkanen and Jyrki Lumme (both w/ 5 GP) for the fourth most by a Finnish defenseman in NHL history behind Reijo Ruotsalainen (12 GP), Kimmo Timonen (7 GP) and Risto Siltanen (7 GP).

* Marshall Warren (0-2—2) found the score sheet twice in his League debut with his hometown Islanders and joined Rich Pilon (0-2—2 on Oct. 6, 1988) as the second defenseman in franchise history to collect multiple points in his first NHL game. Warren, who skated his rookie lap with the Islanders after originally being selected by the Wild in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft (No. 166), hails from Laurel Hollow, N.Y., and is a longtime supporter of Ice Hockey in Harlem, a Hockey Is For Everyone program, mentoring kids and working at their youth hockey camps.

DEVILS, SHARKS HAVE STREAKS ON THE LINE AS NHL ACTION CONTINUES SUNDAY
The Devils and Sharks return to the ice with varying streaks on the line as part of an eight-game Sunday. New Jersey has its sights set on an eight-game win streak for the second time since 2011-12 while San Jose has featured at least one teenager factor on of its past nine goals dating to Oct. 21.

* Defensemen have accounted for each of the past three game-winning goals for the Devils during their string of success thanks to Brenden Dillon (Oct. 21-22) and Dougie Hamilton (Oct. 24). New Jersey can become the fourth team in NHL history to have a blueliner score the game-winning tally in four consecutive contests; Columbus (4 GP from March 6-12, 2018), Calgary (4 GP from Feb. 5-11, 1994) and Boston (4 GP from Dec. 18-28, 1982) are the only clubs to do so to date.

* Macklin Celebrini assisted on San Jose’s lone goal Friday and has collected a team-leading 12 points in eight games (5-7—12). The Sharks travel to Minnesota with the opportunity to become the third team in NHL history to feature at least one teenager recording a point on 10 consecutive team goals. The 1980-81 Oilers (13 goals: Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky & Paul Coffey) and 1979-80 Oilers (10 goals: Gretzky & Messier) are the only teams to accomplish the feat to date.
