Jonathan Toews scored his first goal in more than two years, and first with his hometown club, to spark a come-from-behind Jets victory as the reigning Presidents’ Trophy winners captured their fifth straight win overall.* Pavel Dorofeyev and Jack Eichel each continued their strings of success to start 2025-26 and ignited a Golden Knights club that handed the Hurricanes their first loss of the season and kept their own season-opening point streak intact.
* Brad Marchand will make his much-anticipated return to Boston, where he will skate at TD Garden as a visitor in an NHL game for the first time when the Panthers and Bruins clash on a 10-game Tuesday.
TOEWS TALLIES FIRST GOAL WITH HOMETOWN TEAM, SPARKS COMEBACK WIN
The Flames found the score sheet first, but Jonathan Toews (1-0—1) scored his first goal with his hometown team – and his first in a span of two years and 189 days – to even the score and set the stage for Mark Scheifele (1-0—1) and Josh Morrissey (0-1—1) to lift the Jets to their fifth straight victory. Winnipeg has now won each of its first three road games to start a season for the third time in franchise history, following 2024-25 (7 GP) and 2006-07 (3 GP).
* Toews (37 years, 174 days) became the fifth-oldest player at the time of his first goal with the Jets/Thrashers franchise and the oldest since Mathieu Schneider (39 years, 135 days on Oct. 25, 2008). Toews also became just the third Winnipeg, Man., native to score a goal for the Jets since 2011-12, following Eric Fehr (2x; March 14, 2012 & Jan. 10, 2012) and Cody Eakin (March 9, 2020).
* Scheifele – with the help of an assist by Morrissey – recorded his third career five-game goal streak and tied Patrik Laine (3) for the second most in Jets/Thrashers history, behind only Ilya Kovalchuk (5). In the process, Morrissey surpassed Dustin Byfuglien (294) for the most assists by a defenseman in franchise history.
GOLDEN KNIGHTS HAND HURRICANES THEIR FIRST LOSS
Jack Eichel (1-0—1) and Pavel Dorofeyev (1-0—1) accounted for two of their team’s four goals, and Mitch Marner (0-2—2) collected multiple points for the fourth straight game, as Vegas handed Carolina its first loss of the 2025-26 season. The Golden Knights (5-0-2, 12 points) extended their season-opening point streak to seven games, which stands as the second-longest stretch in franchise history behind a 12-game run to begin 2023-24 (11-0-1).
* Eichel (6-10—16 in 7 GP) and Dorofeyev (7-1—8 in 7 GP), who each debuted for the Golden Knights during the 2021-22 campaign, lead the NHL this season in points and goals (tied), respectively. Overall, the pair of forwards are among the franchise leaders in goals per game (min. 50 GP).
CAPTAIN SUZUKI LEADS CANADIENS TO FIFTH WIN OF THE SEASON
The Canadiens and Sabres were tied through 40 minutes, but Nick Suzuki (0-2—2) assisted on two of his club’s three third-period goals as Montreal captured its fifth consecutive win against Buffalo dating to Nov. 11, 2024 – tied for their longest active run against an opponent (5 GP vs. FLA). The Canadiens (5-2-0, 10 points) required seven or fewer games to reach five victories in a season for the fourth time in the past decade, following 2015-16 (5 GP), 2016-17 (6 GP) and 2020-21 (7 GP).
* Suzuki (1-9—10 in 7 GP), who reached the 10-point mark, extended his season-opening point streak to seven games and matched the longest such streak of his career, following 2020-21 (2-5—7 in 7 GP). Only two other Canadiens players have posted a stretch of at least that length since 1984-85: Bobby Smith (8 GP in 1987-88) and Andrei Markov (7 GP in 2008-09).

MARCHAND’S RETURN TO BOSTON ON ESPN, SPORTSNET, TVA SPORTS
Tuesday’s 10-game slate includes the much-anticipated return of Brad Marchand to Boston, where he will skate at TD Garden as a visitor in an NHL game for the first time. Marchand spent his first 16 seasons skating for the Bruins where he helped the team win a Stanley Cup, served as captain for parts of two seasons and ranks among the top five on multiple franchise lists including games played (1,090; 4th), goals (422; 4th), points (976; 5th) and game-winning goals (82; 2nd). The contest will open an ESPN doubleheader in the U.S. and is also available on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada.
Memory Lane: Marchand and the Bruins
2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs:
Marchand helps the Bruins win the Stanley Cup, scoring 11 goals in 25 playoff games, which to this day stands as the most in franchise history by a rookie in a single playoff year. Marchand also matched a 72-year-old NHL record for most goals by a rookie in a Stanley Cup Final (5) and became the first rookie in League history with multiple goals in a Game 7 of the Final.
2012-13 Season:
Marchand led the Bruins in points for the first time and eventually helped them reach the Stanley Cup Final. In total, Marchand led Boston in points six different seasons, tied with Bill Cowley (6x) and Phil Esposito (6x) for the most seasons as Bruins points leader.
2016-17 Season:
Scored a career-high 39 goals, which at the time was the highest total by a Bruins player in 14 years. Overall, Marchand topped 30 goals five times with Boston and his 14 career 20-goal seasons trail only Johnny Bucyk (16x) for the most in franchise history.
2018-19 Season:
Marchand recorded his first 100-point season and, at the time, the first by a Bruins skater in 16 years. Marchand also recorded a career-high 64 assists that season (his only career 60-assist campaign).
2022-23 Season: Bruins Broke Records
Marchand was a key contributor to the Bruins team that set all-time NHL records for regular-season wins (65) and points (135). Marchand produced at nearly a point-per-game rate throughout the campaign, finishing second on the team in scoring with 21-46—67 in 73 contests. It also marked the final season of long-time teammate and captain Patrice Bergeron.
2023-24 Season:
Marchand was named the 27th captain in Bruins history prior to the campaign and delivered a pair of key milestones. In 2023-24, Marchand became the eighth player in franchise history to skate in 1,000 games with the franchise and the fifth player to score 400 goals in a Bruins uniform.
2024-25 Season: The Trade
Marchand played the first 61 games of the 2024-25 season with the Bruins, recording his 14th and final 20-goal season with the franchise, before the shocking trade that saw him acquired by the defending champion Panthers – the team that had eliminated Marchand and the Bruins out of the playoffs each of the previous two seasons. Marchand would go on to help the Panthers repeat and earn his second career Stanley Cup ring (also 2011 w/ BOS) while posting 10-10—20 across 23 postseason games including a team leading (tied) three game-winning goals.
* ICYMI: Marchand opened up about his return to Boston with NHL.com’s Amalie Benjamin.
MEETING OF TOP PICKS ALSO ON TAP TUESDAY
The first meeting between the NHL’s past two first-overall picks takes place when Macklin Celebrini (No. 1 in 2024) and the Sharks visit Matthew Schaefer (No. 1 in 2025) and the Islanders.
* Schaefer enters Tuesday on a five-game point streak and looks to join Marek Zidlicky (6 GP in 2003-04) as the second defenseman in NHL history to begin his career with a point in six straight contests. The Islanders rookie can also become the fourth No. 1 pick in League history to find the score sheet in each of his first six NHL games, following Alex Ovechkin (8 GP in 2005-06), Alexandre Daigle (7 GP in 1993-94) and Sidney Crosby (6 GP in 2005-06).
* Celebrini (26-42—68 in 75 GP) is two points shy of becoming the fastest player to record 70 points with the Sharks after making his NHL debut with the franchise – a mark currently held by Pat Falloon (95 GP). Only three players in Sharks history have reached the plateau in fewer than 80 games (at any point in their career): Joe Thornton (45 GP), Dany Heatley (66 GP) and Mikael Granlund (78 GP).
* Celebrini will also look to become the third teenager in franchise history to record 70 career points, following Patrick Marleau (34-43—77 in 155 GP) and Jeff Friesen (30-41—71 in 127 GP).
