Veteran Karlsson, rookie murashov LEAD PENGUINS IN Global SERIES Finale
Erik Karlsson (0-1—1) factored on the first of four unanswered Penguins goals in his first NHL regular-season game in his home country since the 2017 Global Series and 21-year-old rookie Sergei Murashov turned aside all 22 shots he faced – including 12 in the third period – to lift Pittsburgh to victory in the 2025 NHL Global Series Sweden presented by Fastenal finale.
* Karlsson (Landsbro, Sweden), who also appeared in the 2022 Global Series Czechia as a member of the Sharks, has collected all five of his career points in regular-season games outside North America in Sweden (0-5—5 in 6 GP). His five career assists in that scenario are tied for the most by one player competing in a regular-season game in his home country, alongside Finland’s Aleksander Barkov (1-5—6 in 4 GP).
* Murashov, who joined Jeff Zatkoff (Nov. 2, 2013) as the second goaltender in Penguins history to register a shutout in his first career NHL win, became the third netminder in NHL history with a shutout in a regular-season game outside North America. The others: Tim Thomas (29 saves in 2010 Premiere Series) and Antti Niemi (23 saves in 2009 Premiere Series).
HUGHES HELPS CANUCKS CLAIM MULTI-GOAL COMBACK WIN WITH FOUR-POINT GAME
After the Lightning went up 2-0, Quinn Hughes (0-4—4) sparked a Canucks comeback that saw the team score six straight goals, including three in a span of 1:40 in the final frame, to defeat the Lightning at Benchmark International Arena. It marked Vancouver’s third multi-goal comeback win of the season, which is tied with Anaheim and Edmonton for the second most behind only Dallas (4).
* Hughes, named to Team USA for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, recorded his third career four-assist game and tied Reed Larson for the fifth most by an American defenseman behind Gary Suter (8 GP), Chris Chelios (6 GP), Brian Leetch (6 GP) and Phil Housley (4 GP). Hughes (448 GP) also became one of just three defensemen in NHL history to record 25 games with three or more assists prior to his 500th contest, joining Bobby Orr (362 GP) and Paul Coffey (428 GP).
* Vancouver scored five goals in the third period of a game for just the fourth time in the past 30 years, following April 8, 2025 (6-5 OT W at DAL), Nov. 3, 2022 (8-5 W vs. ANA) and Oct. 22, 2010 (5-2 W at DET). Three of those five goals came in a span of 1:40, which marked the fastest three goals by one team since the Blackhawks potted that many against the Bruins in 1:33 on April 10, 2025.

* Lucas Raymond (1-1—2) posted a multi-point performance to boost his 2025-26 totals to 5-15—20 (17 GP) and lift the Red Wings to victory at Madison Square Garden. Raymond became the fastest Red Wings player to 20 points in a season at age 23 or younger since Sergei Fedorov (12 GP) in 1993-94.
* Kirill Kaprizov scored on the power play with 10 seconds left in overtime to give Minnesota the victory. Kaprizov recorded the eighth instance in Wild history of a player scoring a goal in the final 10 seconds of overtime and became the only player in franchise history to do so multiple times (4:55 on Dec. 21, 2023).
* Cale Makar (0-1—1) assisted on the tying goal to extend his point streak to five games in the comeback victory as Colorado became the first team this season to hit 30 standings points (13-1-5, 31 points). The Avalanche matched their franchise benchmark for fewest games to reach 30 points in a season (also 19 GP in 2000-01).

STAR DEFENSEMEN SET FOR PRIME MONDAY NIGHT HOCKEY SPOTLIGHT
The Canadiens (10-6-2, 22 points) and Blue Jackets (9-7-2, 20 points) highlight a six-game schedule to start the week and take to the ice on Prime Monday Night Hockey (7:30 p.m. ET).
* The Canadiens and Blue Jackets were the final two teams left battling for the 16th and final playoff spot last season, with Columbus winning five straight games from April 8 to April 15 to narrow the gap to two points entering each club’s final contest. The Canadiens secured a victory in game No. 82 to clinch the last berth, but Columbus won the next night to stretch its season-ending win streak to six games and finish only two points back of Montreal.
* Both clubs had a defenseman steal the spotlight last season. Zach Werenski became the first blueliner in Blue Jackets history to lead the team in scoring – notching 82 points to set a franchise record for a defenseman – en route to becoming the club’s first-ever Norris Trophy finalist. Montreal was sparked by the emergence of Lane Hutson, who tallied 60 assists to match an NHL record for a rookie defenseman before winning the Calder Trophy. Five #NHLStats and storylines you need to know about other national broadcasts this week:
1. Oilers at Capitals on TNT, HBO Max, Sportsnet and TVA Sports (Wednesday): With Edmonton five games into a season-high seven-game road trip, Connor McDavid will face Alex Ovechkin for the 15th time in their careers. McDavid (8-16—24) and Ovechkin (8-7—15) have equal goal totals in 14 head-to-head meetings to date, with the Capitals owning an 8-4-2 advantage (EDM: 6-7-1). Playing in his 11th NHL season, McDavid has 370-742—1,112 (732 GP) plus 14 NHL Awards and 44-106—150 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs (96 GP) – reaching the Final in each of the past two campaigns. Through 11 NHL seasons, Ovechkin had 525-441—966 (839 GP) along with 14 NHL Awards as well as 41-41—82 in the playoffs (84 GP) – but did not reach the Final until season 13, when he secured his first Cup.
2. Hurricanes at Wild on TNT, HBO Max and truTV (Wednesday): Two players selected 100 picks apart a decade ago in the NHL Draft are now nestled among all-time leaders for their respective franchises – though Sebastian Aho (No. 35) and Kirill Kaprizov (No. 135) have taken different paths to get there. While Aho jumped into the NHL at age 19, Kaprizov played five more seasons in the KHL before joining Minnesota in 2020-21 – when he set franchise rookie records for goals, assists and points and became Minnesota’s first Calder Trophy winner. They both rank among the top four in their franchise’s history for goals and points, with Kaprizov owning the scoring edge on Aho across their six seasons in the League together.
3. Kings at Sharks on ESPN+ and Hulu (Thursday): After McDavid and the Oilers open a doubleheader in Tampa and the 2025-26 season hits the official Quarter Mark (Game #328 – DAL at VAN), Anze Kopitar and the Kings will visit Macklin Celebrini and the Sharks. Celebrini has 10-17—27 through 19 games this season – a point total outmatched by only two teenagers in NHL history at that stage of a season: Sidney Crosby (10-20—30 in 2006-07) and Wayne Gretzky (9-21—30 in 1980-81) – and is fast approaching 100 career points (35-55—90 in 89 GP) as he vies for a spot on Team Canada. The youngest player to represent the country at an Olympics involving NHL players was Drew Doughty in 2010 (20 years, 70 days in opener).
4. Maple Leafs at Canadiens on Sportsnet’s Hockey Night in Canada (Saturday): Two players who led their club in goals last season are leading the way again so far in 2025-26. William Nylander has factored on 47% of Toronto’s goals in regulation/overtime when in the lineup this season (26 points on 55 TOR GF) – third in the NHL (min. 10 GP) – while Cole Caufield has scored 22% of Montreal’s goals across their 18 games so far (13 of 60 MTL GF) – second in the NHL.
5. Oilers at Panthers on Sportsnet’s Hockey Night in Canada (Saturday): The Oilers conclude their seven-game road trip with the first of two Stanley Cup Final rematches in 2025-26 (also March 19 at EDM). The Panthers won both meetings last season (and four straight regular-season showdowns dating to 2023-24) before securing their second straight championship over the Oilers in June.
