* Roman Josi scored the overtime winner in his final game against Connor McDavid before Team Switzerland faces Team Canada during the round robin of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 on Feb. 13. McDavid had two assists on his birthday and extended his career-high point streak to 20 games.
* Three out of four contests scheduled for Wednesday will be national telecasts either in the U.S. (NHL On TNT) or Canada (Sportsnet).
GUENTHER BECOMES FIRST PLAYER WITH 50 CAREER GOALS FOR UTAH IN WIN
Dylan Guenther (2-1—3) scored two of his team’s six goals to become the first player to record 50 career goals with the Mammoth (23-20-4, 50 points) as they snapped the Maple Leafs’ point streak at 10 games – the longest run Utah has ended – and moved into the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
* Guenther’s two goals came in a span of 1:18, marking the fastest two tallies by a Mammoth player – a distinction previously held by Logan Cooley who had goals 1:50 apart on Oct. 23. The two tallies brought his total since the calendar flipped to six, which trails only Auston Matthews (7) for the most among all players in 2026.
* Guenther’s first goal stood as his sixth game winner of the season – the second most among all players behind Steven Stamkos (7) – and his 15th overall since Utah entered the NHL last season, which is the most League-wide over that span.
JOSI HAS OVERTIME WINNER AFTER McDAVID EXTENDS POINT STREAK TO 20 GAMES
Roman Josi scored the 3-3 goal and the overtime winner as the Predators (22-20-4, 48 points) rallied past the Oilers and inched closer to a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Josi reached 198 career goals to leapfrog Mark Howe (197) for 24th place on the NHL’s all-time list among defensemen and recorded his 37th game winner, tied with Brian Leetch (37 w/ NYR) for the League’s third most by a blueliner with a single franchise.
* Connor McDavid (0-2—2) celebrated his 29th birthday by extending his career-high point streak to 20 games, one of a dozen runs of that length over the last 35 years (since 1990-91). McDavid became the third player in franchise history with a point streak of 20 or more contests, following Wayne Gretzky (5x; longest: 51 GP from Oct. 5, 1983 – Jan. 27, 1984) and Paul Coffey (28 GP from Nov. 27, 1985 – Jan. 25, 1986).

SCHEIFELE HELPS JETS FEND OFF ISLANDERS RALLY WITH MILESTONE
After the Jets went up 3-0, the Islanders potted three straight goals in the second period to pull even but Mark Scheifele (0-2—2) and Adam Lowry (1-1—2), who climbed the franchise’s all-time game-winning goals list, helped Winnipeg secure the victory at Canada Life Centre.
* Scheifele reached 500 career assists – a mark only one other player has hit with the Jets/Thrashers before – and became the fifth player from the 2011 NHL Draft class to reach the milestone, following Nikita Kucherov (681), Jonathan Huberdeau (542), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (503) and Johnny Gaudreau (500).

* Andrei Vasilevskiy led the Lightning to a franchise record-tying 11th straight win and extended his personal winning streak to eight games – tied for the second longest this season behind only Brandon Bussi (9 GP). Vasilevskiy is expected to start at the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series on Feb. 1, where he can become the sixth goaltender to win each of his first two career outdoor appearances. * Jeremy Swayman (24 saves) backstopped the Bruins to their second straight shutout win and fourth consecutive victory overall as Boston (26-19-2, 54 points) moved into the Eastern Conference’s first Wild Card spot. Swayman, a native of Anchorage, Alaska, is headed to the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 next month with Team USA – whose roster features players from all four corners of the continental United States.
* Boone Jenner scored the go-ahead goal with 1:34 remaining in regulation as Rick Bowness earned a win in his first game as the Blue Jackets’ bench boss. Bowness has been a head coach for Bryan and Mason Marchment, Mike and Cole Sillinger as well as Randy and Miles Wood – two other father-son duos that have played under Bowness include Jevgeni and Vladislav Namestnikov as well as Robert and Kristian Reichel.

FOUR WEEKS UNTIL NHL PLAYERS RETURN TO OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
NHL players will soon be heading to Italy to play for gold at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. The men’s tournament begins exactly in four weeks (Wednesday, Feb. 11), when Team Finland faces Team Slovakia and Team Italy meets Team Sweden. Two players skating tonight will also be heading overseas to take part in the event: Drew Doughty (Team Canada) and Tage Thompson (Team USA).
Drew Doughty, D, Los Angeles Kings / Team Canada (3rd Olympics)
* Doughty has been a mainstay on Team Canada’s blueline for more than 15 years, winning gold at the 2010 Vancouver and 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, while also adding a 4 Nations Face-Off championship in 2025. The Kings defenseman, who enters Wednesday one point shy of 700 in his NHL career, will look to join Sidney Crosby (2014 & 2010) as the first players to win three Olympic gold medals since 1998, when NHLers first participated.
Tage Thompson, F, Buffalo Sabres / Team USA (1st Olympics)
* Thompson, who scored the overtime winner in the gold medal game for Team USA at the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship, is set to represent his country at the Olympics for the first time next month. The Sabres forward enters Wednesday with 195 goals in 451 games with Buffalo (and 198 in his career) – only eight Sabres players have scored 200 goals in fewer than 500 games, with Thomas Vanek (466 GP) being the only one to do so in the past 30 years.
* Did You Know? WEDNESDAY FEATURES SECOND STRAIGHT NHL ON TNT DOUBLEHEADER
Three of Wednesday’s four games will be broadcast nationally in either the U.S. or Canada as the Flyers (22-14-8, 52 points) and Sabres (24-16-4, 52 points) as well as the Golden Knights (21-11-12, 54 points) and Kings (19-16-10, 48 points) headline the NHL on TNT doubleheader, while a meeting between the Senators (21-19-5, 47 points) and Rangers (20-21-6, 46 points) takes over Sportsnet.
* Olympics-bound Mika Zibanejad takes on his former team for the 21st time after scoring in each of his past three games and finding the score sheet in each of his past six contests dating to New Year’s Eve. Zibanejad, who spent his first five seasons in the NHL with the Senators, now finds himself on the verge of Rangers history. He needs one power-play goal to overtake Camille Henry and Chris Kreider (116) for the franchise’s all-time record.
* Golden Knights captain Mark Stone has found the score sheet in each of Vegas’ first six games of 2026 and can become the first player in franchise history to record a seven-game point streak to begin a calendar year. Stone has recorded a point in 89.3% of the games he’s played this season (25/28 GP) – the highest rate among all skaters (min. 2 GP).
