Connor McDavid and Jake Walman’s late-game heroics helped the Oilers stage their second multi-goal, third-period comeback win of 2025-26. Three of four games Monday were decided by a one-goal margin, including two that ended in overtime.
* Jake Walman and New Jersey’s Simon Nemec combined for a rare NHL feat as both defensemen scored a game-tying goal within the final minute of regulation.
* The second game of an NHL on TNT double header is set to feature two of the NHL’s top point getters in Nathan MacKinnon and Leo Carlsson when the Avalanche and Ducks meet at Ball Arena.

McDAVID AND WALMAN SPUR OILERS COMEBACK IN OVERTIME WIN. . .
The Oilers were trailing 3-1 after 40 minutes, but Connor McDavid’s highlight-reel goal in the opening minute of the third period breathed new life into his team. Despite conceding a fourth goal soon after, McDavid netted another one before Jake Walman (2-1—3) tied the game with a shorthanded goal with 58 seconds remaining in regulation and collected a primary assist on Jack Roslovic’s winner 56 seconds into overtime. Edmonton is the only team with two multi-goal, third-period comeback wins this season.

* The Oilers, who scored a game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation and then a goal within the first minute of overtime for the third time in franchise history (Dec. 21, 2024 & Nov. 28, 2022), have recorded multiple two-goal, third period comeback wins in a single season for the fifth time in 20 years. The others: 2013-14 (5), 2021-22 (2), 2010-11 (2) and 2005-06 (2).
* McDavid scored multiple goals in the third period of a game for the 10th time and tied Glenn Anderson for the fourth-most instances in franchise history, behind Wayne Gretzky (25), Jari Kurri (17) and Mark Messier (11).
* Walman became the first player in Oilers history to score a game-tying shorthanded goal in the final minute of regulation and just the ninth defenseman on record. The NHL’s last skater to do so was Vladimir Tarasenko (59:40 on Dec. 15, 2022).

. . . WHILE PANTHERS AND ISLANDERS ALSO WITHSTAND CLOSE GAMES TO WIN
The Panthers (8-7-1, 17 points), Islanders (8-6-2, 18 points) and Oilers (7-6-4, 18 points) each came out victorious in close games during a four-game Monday – a trend that has highlighted the 2025-26 NHL schedule at this stage of a season (255 GP). A close game is defined as a one-goal game or two-plus goal game with an empty-net goal.
* Brad Marchand (1-1—2) extended his goal streak to five games – the longest by a Panthers player age 37 or older in franchise history – and potted two points to move within two of 1,000 in his career, while Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves to earn his 437th career win. He tied Jacques Plante for ninth place on the NHL’s all-time wins list.
* Matthew Schaefer collected his seventh assist of the season on a go-ahead goal in the third period before Simon Nemec tied the game for the Devils with five seconds remaining in regulation – only to have Mathew Barzal score 1:15 into overtime. Schaefer (5-7—12 in 16 GP) surpassed Eric Brewer (5-6—11 in 1998-99; age 19) for the second-most points in a season by an Islanders teenage defenseman.
* Nearly two hours after Nemec (9:29 p.m. ET) helped the Devils salvage a point and force overtime, Edmonton’s Jake Walman (11:16 p.m. ET) did so for the victorious Oilers. Monday marked the seventh day in NHL history to feature multiple defensemen score a game-tying goal within the final minute of regulation. The others: Nov. 3, 2021, Jan. 18, 2014, March 27, 2013, March 19, 2010, Nov. 9, 1991 and Dec. 22, 1935.

FOX ASSISTS TWO OF SIX RANGERS GOALS AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
Adam Fox (0-2—2) was one of five Rangers players with multiple points, recording both of his in the first period, as New York earned its first win at Madison Square Garden this season. Fox (3-10—13), who’s tied for third in scoring among defensemen in 2025-26, will be donating $1,023 for every goal he scores and $523 for every assist he records this season to Tackle ALS, an organization that helps the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS at Massachusetts General Hospital develop therapies that repair or reverse damage caused by ALS and ultimately prevent the disease.
* Fox, who first debuted for the Rangers in 2019-20, now leads his team in assists and points this season thanks to his 29th career multi-assist period. He passed Brad Park (28) for the third most among Rangers defensemen, behind only Brian Leetch (70) and Ron Greschner (30).

WESTERN CONFERENCE LEADERS CLASH DURING NHL ON TNT DOUBLEHEADER
A nine-game Tuesday is highlighted by Veterans Appreciation Night presented by Navy Federal Credit Union on TNT, starting with the second meeting between the Bruins and Maple Leafs in a span of four days and concluding with a clash between the Central Division-leading Avalanche and Pacific Division-leading Ducks.

* The Ducks (11-3-1, 23 points) are off to their third-best 15-game start in terms of points in franchise history (tied), trailing only 2006-07 (11-0-4, 26 points) as well as 2012-13 (12-2-1, 25 points), and currently stand as the only division leader that missed the playoffs last season.
* Anaheim (4.13 G/GP) and Colorado (4.00 G/GP) are the two highest-scoring clubs in the NHL this season, with the Ducks netting four-plus goals in six straight games and the Avalanche scoring 14 total tallies over their past two contests. Anaheim can score four-plus goals in seven straight games for the first time in franchise history (also 6 GP from Dec. 31, 2013 – Jan. 11, 2014), while Colorado can score 20 goals over a three-game span for the second time in nearly 30 years (also 21 from Dec. 6-10, 2021).
* The contest will feature two of the NHL’s top point getters in Nathan MacKinnon (14-15—29 in 16 GP) and Leo Carlsson (10-15—25 in 15 GP). MacKinnon can become the first player to record three straight four-point games since Steve Yzerman (3 GP in 1992-93 w/ DET) while Carlsson can become the second player in Ducks history to post five straight multi-point outings, following Paul Kariya (6 GP from March 9-21,1995).

FERRARO’S IMPACT IN THE COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTED AHEAD OF SHARKS ON ESPN+
Mario Ferraro is set to suit up for the Sharks tonight on ESPN+, but his impact goes well beyond the ice as well. Ferraro is a Hockey Fights Cancer ambassador and is using his platform to help those battling the disease. He’s also one of two players selected by the NHLPA to receive a custom HFC jacket designed to honor the people he’s lost to cancer including his grandparents, his uncle, his billet mom, and his wife’s uncle.
* Last season in partnership with the Sharks Foundation, Kids & Art Foundation and Kaiser Permanente, Ferraro took part in a pediatric oncology patient art workshop designed to provide the youth with a moment of peace, creativity and joy. He sat beside them, painted, listened and reminded each child and their family they weren’t alone.
