The Canadiens continued their trend of scoring late game-tying goals in the third period and rallied to defeat the Senators at Bell Centre. Montreal’s nine wins, five of which have come in overtime, are tied with New Jersey and Winnipeg (who also won Saturday) for the most among all teams.
* Brad Marchand returned to the Panthers’ lineup after he spent the past week in his hometown of Halifax, N.S., scored in regulation and was the only player to find the back of the net in the shootout as Florida defeated Dallas.
* A pair of streaking teams highlight Sunday’s five-game slate as the Mammoth look to establish the longest home winning streak in franchise history against the Lightning, who enter play with four straight victories.

CANADIENS SCORE LATE TYING GOAL IN THE THIRD AND WIN IN OT (AGAIN)
The Senators erased a 2-0 deficit with three straight goals but Ivan Demidov tied the game with 2:23 remaining in the third period and Alex Newhook netted the overtime winner as late tying tallies and overtime victories continued to be the trend for the Canadiens in 2025-26. Montreal (9-3-0, 18 points) earned its NHL-best (tied) ninth win, with five as a result of overtime – also the most among all clubs. The Canadiens became the first team in NHL history to record five overtime wins through their first 12 games of a season.
* The Canadiens captured their third win of 2025-26 after scoring a game-tying goal within the final three minutes of regulation. Montreal’s three such victories are tied for the most in a single season in franchise history, alongside 2019-20 and 2009-10.
* Cole Caufield and Nathan MacKinnon both reached the 10-goal mark Saturday. The last time a Canadiens skater was the first player (tied or outright) to score 10 goals was Brian Savage in 1999-00, while MacKinnon became the second player in Avalanche/Nordiques history in that scenario, following Peter Stastny in 1982-83.
* Demidov (3-7—10 in 12 GP), who leads all rookies in scoring this season, required the fewest games by a Canadiens rookie to 10 points in a season since Stephan Lebeau in 1989-90 (11 GP). He also joined Saku Koivu (2) and Rem Pitlick (2) as the third rookie in franchise history with two career game-tying goals within the final five minutes of regulation.
MARCHAND SCORES SPECIAL GOAL IN RETURN TO PANTHERS LINEUP
Brad Marchand scored and immediately pointed to the sky in his return to the lineup after having spent the past week in his hometown of Halifax, N.S., to be with his longtime friend and former trainer JP MacCallum following the death of his daughter, Selah. He also scored the lone goal in the shootout to help the Panthers earn their fifth straight victory against the Stars dating to 2023-24, which is their third-longest active winning streak against an opponent behind only the Sharks (12-0-0) and Blue Jackets (8-0-0).

SCHEIFELE SOARS INTO LEAGUE SCORING LEAD IN JETS WIN
Mark Scheifele (0-2—2) collected an assist on the opening goal just 15 seconds into the contest – the Jets’ fastest start to a game in nearly seven years – and Kyle Connor (2-0—2) scored two of Winnipeg’s next four goals as the club captured its third straight win. Scheifele (9-11—20 in 12 GP), who leapfrogged Jack Eichel (8-11—19 in 11 GP) atop League scoring, tied Ilya Kovalchuk (12 GP in 2009-10) for the fewest games in Jets/Thrashers history to reach 20 points in a season.
* Connor, with goals in three straight games, became the third player in Jets/Thrashers history to score a shorthanded penalty-shot goal. The others: Eric Perrin (Feb. 2, 2008) and Patrik Stefan (Nov. 5, 2003).

AROUND THE RINKS
* Connor McDavid (0-3—3) had the upper hand over Connor Bedard (0-1—1) in the fifth career meeting between the No. 1 picks as the Oilers captain factored on all three Edmonton goals, including the overtime winner. McDavid notched his 138th career three-point game and passed Jari Kurri (137) for second most in Oilers history, while his 56th career three-assist outing tied Dale Hawerchuk for 14th most in NHL history – the only active player with as many is Sidney Crosby (67).
* Joel Eriksson Ek (0-2—2) was one of four Wild skaters to post multiple points, with his first assist coming in highlight-reel fashion, as Minnesota earned its eighth straight home win against the Canucks dating to Feb. 6, 2020. The Wild tied their second-longest active home winning streak versus one opponent (also 8 GP vs. CHI), trailing only an 11-game run against Montreal.

* Macklin Celebrini (1-0—1) scored one of the Sharks’ three goals to help them defeat the Avalanche in overtime. Nineteen-year-old Celebrini extended his point streak to seven games (6-7—13) and established the longest by a teenager in Sharks history, eclipsing Will Smith (6 GP from Jan. 20-30, 2025; age 19) and Jeff Friesen (6 GP from March 25 – April 5, 1995; age 18).
* Twenty-year-old Easton Cowan (1-0—1) and 35-year-old John Tavares (0-2—2) combined on Toronto’s fourth goal as both players achieved notable feats. Cowan netted his first NHL goal – his first tally since he scored the 2025 Memorial Trophy-winning goal for the London Knights – while Tavares became the fifth Maple Leafs player in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) with a seven-game point streak at age 35 or older. He joined Mats Sundin (4x; longest: 11 GP in 2005-06), Joe Thornton (7 GP in 2020-21), Steve Thomas (10 GP in 1998-99) and Norm Ullman (3x; longest: 12 GP in 1970-71).
* The Sabres and Capitals combined for five goals in the opening frame, including three within the opening 2:30, before Bowen Byram scored the lone goal in the shootout to lift Buffalo to victory and help the club extend its point streak to six games (3-0-3). The Sabres captured their first multi-goal comeback win of the season.

DOUBLEHEADER TAKES CENTER STAGE DURING FIVE-GAME SUNDAY SLATE
A five-game Sunday features several stars and streaking teams in action, including a doubleheader broadcast nationally in Canada (Sportsnet & TVA Sports) and the U.S. (NHL Network) that opens with the Mammoth (8-3-0, 16 points) hosting the Lightning (5-4-2, 12 points) and closes with the Flyers (6-4-1, 13 points) battling the Flames (2-9-2, 6 points).
* The Mammoth (4-0-0 at home) are one of only two teams without a loss of any kind on home ice this season (also NJD: 5-0-0) and aim to set their franchise mark for the longest home winning streak when they host the Lightning, who enter with a four-game win streak of their own. Nick Schmaltz, who has collected a point in each of Utah’s wins at Delta Center in 2025-26 (4-4—8 in 4 GP), has recorded a point in eight straight games (7-8—15 in 8 GP) and can establish the Mammoth mark for the longest point streak.-02015347.png)
