ELMIRA, NY – Friday’s Elmira Jackals game against the Reading Royals was postponed following an ice issue at First Arena. The game will be rescheduled at a time and date to be announced later.
First Arena hosted extreme ice racing last weekend and in preparation for that, the arena staff built up the ice to a greater depth than it usually is. After the harsh conditions from the ice racing on Saturday, the staff began shaving it down throughout the week, in an attempt to get it back to where it originally was, but it was still an inch and a half deeper than usual before Friday’s game. The deeper the ice is, the more unstable the ice conditions are. That led to a large chip in the ice during the course of play. Despite attempted repairs, the ice was deemed unplayable.
The ice conditions for Friday’s game were unrelated to the status of the First Arena Ice Plant.
The Jackals and Royals attempted to complete the game on the Rec Rink ice, but that rink was not in ready condition to host an ECHL game. The teams, in coordination with the ECHL, elected to postpone to a future date.
All ticket stubs from Friday’s game can be exchanged for a ticket to any future Jackals home game.
