Rask, Bruins top Montreal, 2-1, in overtime

In Montreal Monday night, Ryan Spooner scored off a give-and-go with teammate Tory Krug and the Boston Bruins defeated the Canadiens, 2-1, in overtime.

“It was a great pass, and then when I came in, I was going to go backhand and I saw that he was playing deep, so I just tried to fake a shot, and it was good,” Spooner said.

Tuukka Rask stopped 30 shots on the night for the win.

“It was a duel of two of obviously the best goaltenders around, so it was nice to see [Rask] win this duel and stand tall for us,” Bruins coach Claude Julien said. “The other guy did the same thing for his team, so that’s why it was a close game. Both goaltenders were great, and at the end, you know, I’d like to say ours was better.”

Paul Byron got the Habs to even on a goal with under four minutes left in regulation.

“Nothing you can do about it, really,” Rask said. “I just try to battle and tough bounces happen.”

Carey Price took the loss on 27 shots.

“I think everybody in the building appreciated the intensity and speed of the game,” Price said. “I thought it was exciting at both ends.”

Austin Czarnikscored for the Bruins in regulation as they improved to 16-12-2 on the season.”I thought it was a great effort. Obviously, we gave them a point with 3:00 left, but at the same time we showed some character staying with it and having some good chances in overtime, and finally putting it in,” the Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron said.
