SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Rampage (28-33-8-0) earned their fourth straight win on Sunday, topping the Texas Stars 3-2 in overtime in front of 3,919 at the AT&T Center. Mikko Rantanen potted the game-winning goal, his team-leading 22nd of the season to seal the victory for the Silver and Black.
Matej Stransky gave Texas an early lead, lighting the lamp just 21 seconds into the contest. The Rampage evened the score shortly after, as Garrett Thompson notched his fifth of the season to knot the game at one after 20 minutes of play.
Nate Guenin’s blast from the point put the Rampage up 2-1 just over two minutes into the second stanza, but the Stars scored the equalizer before the end of the period. Stransky potted his second of the game and 17th of the season and the teams entered the second intermission with two goals apiece.
San Antonio outshot the Stars 10-7 in the third frame, but neither team found the back of the net, sending the contest to overtime for the third time in the season series. At 2:19 of the extra period, Rantanen’s snipe beat Jack Campbell for his fourth game-winning goal of the season.
Spencer Martin finished with 24 saves on 26 shots for his fourth consecutive win. The Rampage were scoreless on five power-play opportunities while holding the Stars without a goal on three opportunities with the man advantage.
Notes
With the overtime tally, Rantanen tied Connor Brickley’s rookie goals record (22) set during the 2014-15 season.
