On Saturday, Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves for his 446th career NHL win to take over sixth place all-time in the NHL.
He helped the New York Rangers defeat the Boston Bruins, 3-2.
For the Rangers, it was their third straight and fourth n their last five games.
“I’m very proud to be on that list,” Lundqvist said. “It’s not something you think about when you start your career or even seven, eight, nine years in your career, number 14 now. And obviously when you reach the top 10 that’s probably the first time you start to really look at that list. And there’s a lot of goalies that meant a lot to me growing up, inspiration and meant a lot to the game, so to be up there, it’s definitely a proud feeling and we’ll see where it ends. But right now I just try to battle and have fun.”
Mika Zibanejad struck for two goals, the second was the game-winner on the power play, for the Rangers who moved to 21-20-7.
New York does not play again until January 29.
“I’ve been waiting for this week. It’s been a grind, obviously for different reasons. Up and down, and I think it’s good to get a break and also reflect on why did we have a really good week here. I hope we all do that and understand how focused we were and really paid attention to all the details in our game this week and really why we’ve been winning,” Lundqvist said.
They appear to have wiped away the stench of the recent loss in Columbus that caused head coach David Quinn to lose his temper.
“Obviously we got a huge power-play goal, and our penalty kill was huge all night, so special teams were the story tonight,” Quinn said.
Brad Marchand and Danton Heinen scored for the Bruins.
Filip Chytil opened the scoring for the Rangers when he went end to end, again, and beat Tuukka Rask on a top shelf shot.
Chytil was checked into Rask, after the goal was scored, by a Bruins defender in a silly reaction to having been beaten.
“I think we had spots where we played really well, we had spots where we didn’t,” Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy said. “It sucks right now, we wanted to obviously get two points before the break. But I guess there’s positives you could take out of every game, so you try to take it, go into the break, refocus and take some time away.”
The Bruins dropped to 27-17-5.

Jaroslav Halak finished the game in place of Rask who sustained a concussion on the Chytil goal.
“You have to be a self-motivator to be a successful player in this league. It can’t be up to the coach every night to rev you up. We give them information, we prepare them the day before, we do some stuff in the morning, but when that puck drops it’s the individuals’ job to be ready to play, energy-wise and focused on the task at hand,” Boston head coach Bruce Cassidy said.
