Sunday the New York Rangers announced that Henrik Lundqvist would miss two to three weeks with a lower body injury.
Antti Raanta stepped in as he has this season and made 23 saves to help the Rangers
to a 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
“I can’t go out there and think about how many more games I’m going to be playing in the next few weeks,” Raanta said. “I just wanted to play a good game today. Now I can worry about my next game.”
Ryan McDonagh struck twice in the win.
Kevin Hayes had a goal and two points in the win as the Rangers improved to 44-23-2.
McDonagh’s second goal and Hayes’ strike came 37 seconds apart in the second period to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead.
“I thought it was an even game, and then we shot ourselves in the foot twice in 37 seconds,” Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said. “We’ve got to get to the point where we aren’t beating ourselves.”
Derek Stepan scored a goal on the power play for his first goal since mid January.
“I can’t tell you how good that felt,” he said. “I’ve never had a streak like this in my career, but the last four or five games, it really started to come around.”
Frans Nielsen scored a goal to tie the game at 1-1
