In Boston, the Bruins showed off their new, post-trade deadline lineup on Saturday.
Same old Bruins, no matter who they on the bench.
In a matinee with the New York Rangers, the Bruins posted a 4-2 win.
The Rangers iced their new lineup with the same old results.
They managed all of three shots on goal in the third period, three!
Despite the pathetic output on shots in the period, they managed to out shoot the Bruins 26-24 for the game.
Linus Ullmark made 24 saves to get the win.
The Bruins have won 10 straight.
Boston took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal from Charlie Coyle.
The Bruins improved to 49-8-5.
It is certainly not unreasonable to think of this as a difficult match-up for the Rangers. The Bruins are clearly rolling from Game 1 of the season, but the Rangers are not what they are hyped to be if they can only muster up three shots in a game they needed to compete.
Tomas Nosek scored a shorthanded goal with just 30 seconds gone in the middle frame to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead.
The Rangers replied with a power play goal off a deflected in front of the net by Alexis Lafreniere to trim the lead to 2-1.
The Rangers dropped to 35-19-9
The Bruins then took advantage of the lackluster play from the Rangers in the third period and scored twice in the back half of the frame for a 4-1 lead.
New York dropped to 1-5-2 in their last eight.
The Bruins went old school with old timers Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak for the strikes.
Lafreniere scored with less than two minutes to go in the game, and the extra skater on the ice, to make it a 4-2 final.
Igor Shesterkin continued his mediocre lay of late in making 22 saves in the loss.
