In a weekend that was clearly a make or break stretch for the New York Rangers, they took a step in the right direction with a pair of wins including a 3-2 victory over the Bruins in Boston Saturday.
Mats Zuccarello waited, waited, waited and then waited some more before wristing a
power play goal 1:56 into the extra session for the winner.
“For sure, it was a back-to-back, I don’t think we played our best game today,” Zuccarello said. “I was probably the worst player out there. So it was a tough game. … It was a team effort, we got the win in the end.”
The Rangers built a 2-0 lead through the second period before Boston rallied on goals from Danton Heinen in the second and Brad Marchand in the third period.
“We obviously … weren’t as sharp as we’d like to be,” Heinen said. “But going down 2-0, it was nice to get back in it. We battled back and got a point out of it and fell a little short.”
Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves to get the Blueshirts the win.
“He was definitely in the zone and we’ve seen it many times throughout the season,” Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh said about Lundqvist. “It’s great to see him playing with confidence there, being aggressive on guys. I mean, he’s just making such good reads.”
The win was crucial with seemingly every other team in the Metropolitan Division winning a game Saturday.

Tuukka Rask made 25 saves in the loss.
Michael Grabner and J.T. Miller scored for the Rangers in regulation; Grabner’s goal came off a shot that hit the glass behind the cage and caromed back and hit Rask’s back and into the net.
“I’m going to go talk to the [TD Garden crew] about that after this. There must’ve been a Celtics game last night. … Yeah, that’s a first,” Rask said after the game.
