Monday night in Manhattan, the Hew York Rangers extended their point streak to six games with a 2-1 win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks.
Filip Chytil and Brett Howden scored for the Rangers who improved to 9-7-2.
Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves in the win.
“We’re in every game. We continue to make smart plays, smart decision with the puck,” Lundqvist said. “We put ourselves in position to win every game. It has been great to see. We are moving in the right direction. We didn’t try to do too much.”
The Rangers brass famously announced a rebuild at the end of last season and held a fire sale of old veterans and unproductive players. The youth movement was officially announced.
The club is 6-0-1 in their last seven games and the youth scored both goals in the win.
Nikolay Goldobin scored the lone goal for the Canucks who dropped to 10-7-2.
“It was one of those games where it just kind of came down to a bounce,” Canucks coach Travis Green said. “We had some good spurts tonight. You’re going to play well and lose sometimes. … Give their team credit; they played well too. They didn’t give us a lot.”
Lundqvist now has 437 wins and moved into a tie for seventh all time with Jacques Plante.
“The guy is a Hall of Famer, climbs the ladder for the all-time wins list tonight, real happy for him in that regard,” Rangers coach David Quinn said. “He’s a big piece of us winning 2-1 tonight.”
Lundqvist did benefit from several pipes including Michael Del Zotto who rang a shot off both posts; the goal light came on but video review waived it off.
“It’s a game of inches,” Del Zotto said. “I knew at that point, if that’s not going in, it’s probably not going in for me the rest of the night. It’s just one of those games. I thought tonight we deserved to get one point out of this. Luckily we play tomorrow night (against the New York Islanders) and hopefully we get two points there.”

Jacob Markstrom made 25 saves in the loss.
“It’s tough right now, but I thought we played a really good road game. We created a lot of chances and could’ve scored a lot of goals,” Markstrom said. “We had post, crossbar, post (on Del Zotto’s shot) and then crossbar right after that. You make your luck too. We have to keep working. The good thing with this league is that there’s a game tomorrow.”
