Rangers routed in embarrassing Game 5 loss NY outplayed, outmatched and just plain dismissed by better prepared Penguins

PITTSBURGH, Pa – At the beginning of this year’s NHL playoffs, you can almost bet that New York Rangers fans were thinking their team was once again going to take out the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round. Well, after taking two games In New York wasn’t enough the Penguins trounced the Rangers at home on Saturday in Game Six 6-3 to make sure this time around it would be Rangers fans going home wondering what the name of the bus that just hit them. 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs logo

Bryan Rust had two goals and ex-Ranger Carl Hagelin, Phil Kessel, Conor Sheary, and Matt Cullen combined to dominate the Rangers on the scoreboard. The Rangers won nearly every other statistical category except where it mattered most: On the scoreboard. Henrik Lundqvist once again had a rough outing making 16 saves on 21 shots. Rookie Matt Murray had 31 saves on 33 shots. Look for Murray to stay in net at least at the start of the next series.

The Penguins will face the winner of the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals. Game Six of their series is Sunday. If it goes to a game seven it will be on Thursday so the start of the Penguins next series might not start until Friday or Saturday giving the Penguins time to heal as the Flyers and Caps grind it out for a least one more game.
