Rangers fourth straight, 4-3, in OT

In New York, the Rangers rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits on Monday night to defeat the New Jersey Devils, 43, on an overtime goal from Filip Chytil at 2:15 of the extra session.

Chytil took a back pass from Artemi Panarin in the low right boards and writed home the winner off the left pipe.

“It always feels good that we have these comebacks, and we show our true character,” Chytil said. “We have to just keep going. Sometimes it’s hard [to stay positive], but we had a three-game winning streak. It was like, ‘We can get back into the game.'”

Igor Shesterkin made 26 saves in the win, and settled down after two bad bounce goals in the first period.

The angers improved to 15-10-5. They  are 5-1-1 in their last seven.

Jonas Siegenthaler and Dawson Mercer scored two goals within 1:41 of each other for the 2-0 lead.

Chris Kreider scored with 95 seconds left in the first period to get the Rangers to within one at 2-1.

Jack Hughes scored in the middle frame to restore the Devils two0goal lead at 3-1, his goal came at 11:05 of the period.

The Rangers then scored twice in a seven second span.

Vincent Trocheck with 6:02 left in the second to get the Rangers back to within one at 3-2.

Kaapo Kakko then too a pass from Kreider on the left side of the crease and banged home the the puck for a 3-3 tie.

“It’s huge,” Fox said. “You could see the emotion from the guys on the ice, laughter and tripping over everyone in the pile. You don’t see that all the time on just a goal, but when you’re able to come back from 3-1 that quickly, the crowd gets really into it, and I think it’s a big momentum swing. You get that jolt of energy.”

New Jersey dropped to 21-5-2.

“It’s a rivalry game,” New Jersey’s Nico Hischier said. “It was intense and close until the end. No time for panic. We have to regroup, and tomorrow is a new game. That’s what we have to focus on right now.”

Hughes was given a penalty shot chance in the second period, but Shesterkin snuffed the flubbed attempt.

“That’s a key moment in the game,” Devils defenseman Damon Severson said. “If we get a goal, we’re up by a bunch. If they get a save there, they feel like they’re still in the game. That’s a 50-50 chance. Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way, but we still had plenty of chances to win the game. We just couldn’t get it done tonight.”

Vitek Vanecek made 19 saves in the loss.
