Rangers embarrassed by Penguins, 7-2 Pens in a rout lead series 3-1 Update to follow

It is difficult to find the proper adjective for the loss by the Rangers in Game 4 on Monday.

Really, none actually fit the devastation of a 7-2 loss to the Penguins, in Pittsburgh.

The Pens lead the series 3-1.

Mercifully, the series may well end in New York on Wednesday in Game 5.

Alexis Lafreniere gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the first period, and from there it was a downhill slide to oblivion.

Sidney Crosby tied the game, 1-1, before the end of the opening period.

Louis Domingue made 22 saves in the easiest win of his career.

Mike Matheson, Jake Gueetsel, and Mark Friedman scored to give the Pens a 4-1 lead in the middle frame.

Adam Fox temporarily stopped the run to get the Rangers back on the board at 4-2.

But the onslaught continued with two more goals in the frame from Danton Heinen and Jeff Carter for a 6-2 lead after two periods.

Evgeny Malkin tacked on a goal in the third period for the 7-2 final.

Igor Shesterkin got the start and surrendered six goals before getting the hook in the second intermission. Shesterkin made 24 saves in another dismal performance when he was needed most.

Alexander Georgiev made 10 saves in the third.
