Rangers drop first of the playoffs in Game 4 Rangers head home with 3-1 series lead

In Raleigh, the Hurricanes scored three first period goals to take a 3-1 lead oi the New York Rangers in Game 4 of their second round Stanley Cup Playoffs series 

The Canes took a 3-1 lead in the first period and then needed a power play goal, their first of the series, in the third period to snap a 3-3 tie for a 4-3 win.

The Rangers lead the series, 3-1, headed back to Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

Frederick Andersen made 22 saves in the win.

Evgeny Kuznetsov staked the Canes to a 1-0 lead at 1:51 of the opening stanza.

Stefan Noesen pushed the lead to 2-0 at 6:33, scoring off a rebound.

The Rangers’ Will Cuylle trimmed the deficit to 2-1 at 8:06, scoring off a pass from Kaapo Kakko.

Carolina made it 3-1 at 15:29 when Sebastian Aho  scored at 15:29 on a shot from the left circle for a 3-1 lead headed to the middle frame.

In the middle frame, Barclay Goodrow closed the gap to 3-2 at 12:43, scoring off a tip in of a shot by Braden Schneider.

In the third period, Alexis Lafrenière tied the game, 3-3, when he put the puck in the net form below the goal line on a bank shot off Andersen’s back at 2:04.

it was Lafreniere’s fourth goal in three games.

Brady Skjei hit off the power play with just over three minutes left on the game clock for the 4-3 final.

Igor Shesterkin made 27 saves in the loss.
