Rampage slip by Roadrunners, 4-2

SAN ANTONIO – Jim O’Brien’s two-point game helped the San Antonio Rampage (25-32-5-2) defeat the Tucson Roadrunners (24-27-6-0) 4-2 on Tuesday evening at the AT&T Center.

O’Brien recorded one goal and one assist en route to the First Star of the Game and his third multiple-point game of the season. Duncan Siemens registered two assists on the night, earning him his first multiple-point game of the season and the Second Star of the Game.

The Rampage opened the scoring early in the first frame when O’Brien made a nifty move in front of the net to set up Troy Bourke for a shorthanded goal at the 7:52 mark.

San Antonio extended its lead to two at 7:36 of the second period when Alex Belzile went top shelf on Tucson netminder Marek Langhamer. O’Brien landed his second point of the evening at 17:29 when he sent a blast from the top of the faceoff circle, giving San Antonio a three-goal lead heading into the second intermission.

The Roadrunners rallied midway through the third period with a power-play goal from Chris Mueller at 8:06, but it fell short nearly five minutes later when the Rampage tacked on a fourth goal. Forward Rocco Grimaldi connected for his ninth power-play goal of the season at 13:32 from Colin Smith and Turner Elson. Tucson registered a second goal with 25 seconds remaining from Michael Bunting, but it wasn’t enough as San Antonio secured its 25th victory of the season.
