SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Rampage today announced that goaltender Sam Brittain and defenseman Josh Atkinson have been signed to AHL contracts.
Brittain, 25, signs with the Rampage after spending the 2016-17 season with the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) and Manchester Monarchs (ECHL). Florida’s eighth selection (fourth round, 92nd overall) in the 2010 NHL Draft recorded a .905 save percentage and 2.42 goals-against average in 10 contests with the Thunderbirds, and an .896 save percentage and 3.28 goals-against average in 36 appearances with the Monarchs.
The Calgary, Alta., native also joined Manchester for the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs, finishing third amongst qualified goaltenders in playoff wins (11), fifth in save percentage (.925), and sixth in goals-against average (2.33). The 6-foot-1, 215-pound netminder made seven appearances with San Antonio during the 2014-15 season, collecting four wins, a .943 save percentage and 1.76 goals-against average.
Atkinson, 24, spent a majority of the 2016-17 season with the Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL), collecting 10 goals and 40 assists in 66 games. The Spruce Grove, Alta., native was the fourth-highest scorer on the Gladiators roster and lead all Atlanta defenseman with 50 points. Atkinson appeared in two contests with the Chicago Wolves (AHL), and signed a professional tryout contract with San Antonio on April 10.
Before making his professional debut with the Gladiators on March 29, 2016, the 6-foot, 194-pound defenseman spent four seasons at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, combining for 48 points (8g/40a) in 144 games.
