CEDAR PARK – The San Antonio Rampage defeated the Texas Stars 3-1 in front of 2,713 in the H.E.B. Center at Cedar Park. A.J. Greer lead the team in scoring with two goals, earning him the First Star of the Game.
The Rampage were first to get on the board when Greer scored an early goal in the first period, wrapping from behind the net and clearing the puck to the left of Stars goaltender, Landon Bow. San Antonio’s Spencer Martin blanked the Stars for a scoreless first period, maintaining the team’s 1-0 lead over Texas.
The first half of the second period remained relatively quiet until Gary Nunn capitalized on a power play at the 11-minute mark. The goal occurred when J.T. Compher fed the puck to Nunn from across the ice, giving him an outside shot past Bow. Texas answered quickly, when Bystrom tipped in a pass from Dennis Gurianov, giving the Stars their first goal of the match to tie up the game seconds later. San Antonio closed out the third with another power play goal by Greer with just over a minute remaining in the frame. Greer out-hustled surrounding skaters on a loose puck, tipping it in between the pipes past Philippe Desroiers to push the Rampage’s lead to 3-1. Spencer Martin made more than a handful of fantastic saves, including a huge catch when the Stars attempted to score on the top shelf toward the end of the period.
Both teams were held scoreless in the third round, despite the Stars out-shooting the Rampage 12-3.
San Antonio’s Martin finished the night with 12 saves (.923) in 34 minutes, while Lieuwen shutout his opponents with 16 saves in 25 minutes.
