DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wild (5-22-2-3, 15 points) were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage (13-10-6-0, 32 points) 2-1 in front of 3,964 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Monday night. Pickard (9-8-4) stopped 26 of 27 shots in the victory. Forward Kurtis Gabriel scored the lone goal as Iowa saw its winless streak at home extend to 12 games. Iowa goalie Leland Irving (4-12-3) made 22 saves on 24 shots in the loss. Forward Dennis Everberg added a goal for San Antonio. The Wild travels to Chicago on Dec. 26 for a game against the Wolves.
Forward Kurtis Gabriel opened the scoring at 19:55 of the first period, giving Iowa a 1-0 lead. Gabriel threw the puck on net from the right point with the first-period clock winding down. The puck redirected off of a Rampage defenseman and through the legs of goalie Calvin Pickard for his second goal of the season.
Rampage forward Dennis Everberg tied the game 1-1 at 4:34 of the second period. Forwards Patrick Bordeleau and Joey Hishon each earned an assist on the goal. Irving made the initial save on a Bordeleau wrist shot, but the puck trickled behind him. Everberg lunged for the rebound and jammed the puck to the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.
Forward Colin Smith gave the Rampage a 2-1 lead at 2:16 of the third period. Forward Mikko Rantanen tallied an assist on the shorthanded goal. Rantanen started the play by winning a battle for the puck in the neutral zone. The rookie curled into the offensive zone and behind the net, finding Smith in the slot. Smith took a one-timer, sliding the puck through Irving’s five-hole for his tenth goal of the season.
