Rampage down Stars, 4-2, in preseason opener

SAN ANTONIO  – Forward Adam Musil recorded one goal and two assists en route to a 4-2 victory for the San Antonio Rampage over the Texas Stars in the opening game of the 2017-18 preseason at the AT&T Center on Friday night.

Alex Belzile opened the scoring for the Rampage 5:06 into the contest when he found the back of the net for San Antonio’s first power-play goal of the preseason. The remainder of the period went scoreless as the Silver and Black took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Texas wasted no time in the second frame as Mark McNeill found a loose puck in the slot and fired it past Rampage netminder Spencer Martin 20 seconds into the period. San Antonio regained the lead at the 7:47 mark when Josh Atkinson buried the puck past Stars goalie Philippe Desrosiers. Musil and Jesse Graham picked up assists on the play as Texas opted for a change in net after the second Rampage goal.

The Rampage extended their lead 91 seconds into the final stanza when Musil tipped in a Nicolas Meloche blast from the blue line for his second point of the night. Musil then capped off his three-point night when he set up Nolan De Jong, who sent a rocket past Stars goalie Landon Bow for a 4-1 lead at 7:59. After nearly 10 minutes of scoreless action, Texas recorded a power-play goal from Cole Ully to cut the lead to two at the 17:58 mark, but the Rampage held on to their 4-2 lead in the closing minutes of the contest.
