Rampage double up Tucson, 4-2

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Rampage (12-13-2-0) defeated the Tucson Roadrunners (11-6-3-0) 4-2 Saturday night at the AT&T Center. San Antonio registered four consecutive goals during the second and third periods to erase its 1-0 deficit and collect the first-ever victory over Tucson in franchise history.

Forward J.T. Compher registered his second multi-point night, collecting a goal and an assist in his first appearance since Nov. 9, earning him First Star of the Game. Forward A.J. Greer recorded his fifth multi-point game this season, tallying a goal and an assist earning him the Second Star of the Game. Defenseman Cody Corbett registered two assists on the night, earning the Third Star of the Game and his first multi-point game of the season.

Tucson collected the first period’s lone goal just 48 seconds in when Garret Ross recorded his first of the season from Dakota Mermis and Christian Fischer.

San Antonio responded midway through the second period when Greer tied the game at the 11:52 mark, thanks to Compher and Rocco Grimaldi. The Rampage tallied a second at 14:32 when Compher sent a blast from the point, giving Corbett and Greer assists.

The scoring continued in the third stanza as Jim O’Brien finished a drop-off pass from Corbett and Joe Whitney at 9:33 to put the Rampage up 3-1. Julien Nantel increased the cushion nearly two minutes later when he recorded his first short-handed goal at the 11:32 mark after Reid Petryk and Matt Lashoff forced a Tucson turnover. The Roadrunners cut into the Rampage lead with 49 seconds remaining, but it was not enough as San Antonio collected their fourth victory in the Alamo City.
