Rampage double-up Stars

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Rampage (24-17-4-0) registered four unanswered goals to defeat the Texas Stars (24-17-4-2) in front of a season-high 12,324 fans during the eighth annual Pink in the Rink Game on Friday at the AT&T Center.

Texas opened the scoring 90 seconds into the first period when Colin Markison forced a turnover in the Rampage zone and found Austin Fyten on a backdoor cut for a shorthanded goal. The remainder of the period went scoreless as the Stars took a one-goal advantage into the first intermission.

Texas extended its lead at 3:42 of the second stanza after Brian Flynn forced a Rampage turnover and beat netminder Ville Husso with a backhander for Texas’ second shorthanded goal of the game. Samuel Blais started the Rampage rally when he fired a shot that deflected off the back of netminder Mike McKenna’s pad and into the net.

San Antonio evened the game at two 5:53 of the final frame when Duncan Siemens delivered a pass to Trent Vogelhuber who fired a shot through the legs of McKenna for the third shorthanded goal of the game. The Silver and Black took the lead for good less than four minutes later at 9:39 after Blais found Chris Butler who went top shelf for his eighth goal of the season. Forward Oskar Sundqvist secured the Rampage victory at 17:00 after deflecting Nicolas Meloche’s shot out of the air and into the back of the net.
