CEDAR PARK, Texas – Joe Colborne and Rocco Grimaldi’s shootout tallies lifted the San Antonio Rampage (3-1-0-0) to a 3-2 shootout victory over the Texas Stars (3-1-0-1) on Friday at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Curtis McKenzie opened the scoring for the Stars at the 12:47 mark of the first frame after cleaning up Denis Gurianov’s initial shot on Rampage netminder Spencer Martin. San Antonio responded 39 seconds later when Tage Thompson found the back of the net at 13:26 for his first goal of the season.
Texas regained the lead 4:50 into the middle stanza as Jason Dickinson tipped in a centering pass from Gurianov. The Rampage responded at 13:36 when A.J. Greer found a trailing Mason Geertsen, who sent a rocket past Stars goaltender Mike McKenna for the first American Hockey League goal of his career. The remainder of the period went scoreless as both teams entered the second intermission with the game tied at two.
The contest was forced into a shootout after a scoreless third and overtime period. Martin turned away two of Texas’ three shootout attempts, allowing Colborne and Grimaldi to thrust the Rampage to a 3-2 victory after registering shootout markers.
