SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The San Antonio Rampage (14-11-6-0) rallied from a three-goal deficit but fell to the Texas Stars (15-13-2-2) 3-2 in front of 7,256 at the AT&T Center on Sunday evening. It was the Rampage’s 11th annual Teddy Bear Toss game, presented by H-E-B, and the bears collected at the game will benefit the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.
Joey Hishon and Dennis Everberg each tallied a goal and an assist to pace the Rampage.
Brett Ritchie got the Stars on the board first in the opening period, and a Julius Honka one-timer on the power play at the 17:02 mark of the frame gave Texas a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Stars scored their third unanswered goal early in the middle stanza, as Greg Rallo tipped in a slapshot from Esa Lindell, also on the power play, giving Texas a 3-0 lead. Dennis Everberg’s eighth of the season triggered a shower of teddy bears onto the AT&T Center ice and brought the Rampage within two at the end of the second period.
Joey Hishon got things started quickly in the final frame, scoring just 25 seconds in to make it a 3-2 game. The Silver and Black outshot the Stars 8-6 in the third period, but Texas held on for the 3-2 win.
San Antonio finished 1-for-4 on the power play, and Spencer Martin, who was making his first start since a 4-3 loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Nov. 22, finished with 32 save on 35 shots.
