Lightning does strike twice after all.
On Tuesday night in Anaheim, Rickard Rakell‘s power play goal with less than a minute gone in overtime gave the Ducks a rare win, 2-1, over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
“I’m just trying to jump on the puck after the faceoff,” Rakell said. “We’re on the power play and they only have three guys, so if there’s open ice for me, I’m not going to hesitate to shoot. It was nice to see it go in.”
Ben Bishop made 19 stops in the loss.
“That was a game we for sure deserved points, it was just whether we were going to get the second one,” Bolts head coach Jon Cooper said. “We had our chances. We missed open nets and posts and everything.”
Ryan Getzlaf scored in regulation for the Ducks who are now 2-8 in extra time games.
“If there’s a (3-on-3 game plan), I want to know about it because we’re not very good at it,” Getzlaf joked. “You play 3-on-3 as a kid and it’s almost like pond hockey out there. It’s hard to kind of keep your focus on playing on both ends of the rink and figuring out what to do.”
John Gibson made 27 saves to get the win.
Getzlaf’s goal came just 21 seconds after Valtteri Filppula had given the Lightning a 1-0 lead.
“We got good pressure on the entry. The puck went side to side. It was just on the backcheck. The puck turned over and I tried to get it on net,” Getzlaf said.

The Lightning were 1-0-1 on back to back nights.
“Guys should keep their heads high here. We got three out of four points on a back-to-back, (and) that’s not very easy. We have to watch video here, see what we did right and get ready for San Jose,” Bishop said after the OT loss.
